Urinates when excited

Hi everyone,

Maximus is six months old, and potty training is going as well as can be expected. He still has accidents, but they are few and far between. Except for one thing--whenever he gets excited to see someone, he urinates all over himself and the visitor. I will even take him out beforehand if I know someone is coming over, but he STILL does it! (Not as much, but there are always a few drops.)

I'm hoping this is something he will grow out of eventually. I have heard that puppies have very little bladder control, but shouldn't he be doing better at this age?

I'd appreciate any words of wisdom from you guys!

. . . is not all that uncommon. The defense against this is for the visiting party to ignore Maximus when they arrive. After a time (varies) the chance of the submissive peeing is lessened. It may even be necessary to accompany him outdoors to greet each other, where the peeing is not an issue. Some puppers outgrow this to different degrees . . . some don't.

Mark is right on the money! We had a rescue named Penny that did this and that's why her previous owners "got rid of her".
Penny was such a love we treasured every year with her. The way we did it is to ignore her (us or the company) and in time she would come to us and not pee on the floor unless you reached down to say hi.. It took some time but eventually she stopped..... oh, once in a while she had an accident but not like when she first came to live here. Have patience it will work out in the future.

I tried Mark's suggestion when I got home yesterday afternoon. Max came ran up to me like always, but I ignored him. He then proceeded to run about 20 laps around the living/dining room before getting tired. When I finally greeted him there wasn't a drop of pee.

Encouraging as that was, this morning he was sitting on the couch with me when my wife came out of the bedroom after getting dressed for work. When she gave him some attention the waterworks started again!

We'll keep working on it, though... Max will be easy to train--it's the hoomans I'm worried about! ;)
