Hi Everybody: :wahooo::loveshower::stars::happy030:

Exciting news, we are going to take the plunge and add a 10 month-old, black and cream, long-hair to our family!!!! I think it is cool that she has cream fur, Chelsea's was reddish but now she's gray in the face and legs.

Any advice for introducing her C&C?

Traveling advice?

What about grooming supplies?

I've heard long hairs are somewhat calmer.

We are deciding on names:

Summer
Sienna
Shea
Ceciley
Darling
Irish
Lark
Chanel (my dad got me a Heniz 57 mix in 1983, and that was her name)

I'm happy & nervous. On Tuesday, my husband and I are going to go to Chicago for an interior design convention, and then travel on into Wisconsin to pick her up on Wednesday morn.

Her breeder shows dogs and she said her back legs were just a bit too tall for showing, but that is fine for us b/c we just want a family pup and aren't interested in breeding her. She has all of her shots and we're paying $350.

I'll post some pics.

Oh yeah, we want to come to the picnic in Kent, Ohio too.

I love the creams, a friend of ours (Tim) in the Boston Dachshund meetup group has an English Cream named Rocky, he's beautiful.

You are coming to Ohio for the picnic? That's great! Love to meet you all.

Oh, I got so excited I forgot to answer the name part
Well, I think Summer sounds beautiful, and Lark.
Of course Chanel sounds beautiful but we're prejudice.

How exciting, she sounds gorgeous. IMO the lh are more laid back/mellow but don't get me wrong they have there moments of being spastic, lol...Love the name choices....But if it were me since your other 2 girls have C's I would go for a C name. Love Cicily or Cece, and ofcourse Chanel :)...I think you could find some more cute C names, JMO

I have 2 lh and there really not that much work at all. I do my own grooming but have taken them to get groomed once and to be quit honest, love the groomer, love the way they looked and smelled great for weeks but she didn't take enough back hair off of them and love how she made there ears stand out more...She trimmed the side part of the ears and it made a huge impact on how they look/loved it. She didn't trim the bottom part and wouldn't dare touch the ears/she breeds and shows lh mini dachshunds.

I just buzz there butt area, you won't have to do that until she's probably 1...(are her parents both lh?) You will know when you need to trim the butt. I then also monthly when I trim there nails I buzz/trim there paws. If you start her off early it's so much easier and they get used to it. I now dremel my 2 and didn't start doing that until recently and they both are fine with it.

As far as shampooing it depends on the dog. I have the flea shampoo, for if it really gets bad outside even though mine both are on sentinel/prevention. I also have an oatmeal medicated type shampoo for Rambo b'c he gets bad allergies towards the beginning of the summer. And then I have a conditioning shampoo that I use on both during the winter time.

Oh, I am so jealous of all you multiple dachsie owners, lol! I was just telling Otis that maybe he needs a brother or sister to keep him busy, cuz he has such a lazy mom. :)

Congrats! and can't wait to see pictures. I would like to see her before choosing my favorite name, but I don't think you should name such a German dog, "Irish." lol jmho

I always wanted a long haired black and tan dapple and wanted to name her Abby (as in Otis and Abby, I think it goes good together). I also love Callie and Cassie. Oh, if i can just win the lottery now, so I can afford to get another....maybe someday. :Sun2:

Looking forward to pics!

Congrats. All five of mine are lh and grooming is not difficult, just takes some extra time, espicially if it is muddy out or there is something to catch in their hair. The brushes that we use first are self cleaning ones (they are wonderful) and then we use the soft bristle brushes. We also use combs and when needed a shedding blade (small pony type - used very gently as not to scrape their skin). Bath time is the fun time, as the lh seems to keep water and lots of towels are needed. Can not wait to see the pictures. We have dedicated a hour to two hours each evening as a brushing, combing session and I will sware that they can tell time by counting the chimes on the clock. 7 pm is their time and they will go to the bottom drawer where their brushes and combs are kept if I am over 10 minutes late. We also use unscented baby wipes to wipe their fur off and their feet when necessary.:goodluck::goodluck:

:stars::loveshower::stars:Congratulations! You must be soooooo excited! I can't wait to see pics and to meet you and your crew in Ohio. Our Tucker is a LH shaded English cream (2 yrs. old next week); and I said when I joined this board that my next one will be a LH black and cream. I fell in love with Julian the first time I saw him :hearts:(JulianandMisty) and knew that I wanted one of those gorgeous bl/creams someday.

When we got Tucker at 10 1/2 weeks, we went from MI to KY and back (13 hours one way). These are some items that you might want to pack for the trip: leash, crate, blankie, water, small amount of kibble, bowls, paper towel, wet wipes, flashlight (if travelling at night) and small basin (for possible car sickness).

We would drive for 2 hours and get out for 20 min. and walk, potty, offer water and maybe 5-6 pieces of kibble (you don't want to overload a nervous tummy). We were going to stop and spend the night half way back; but, Tucker was such a good little traveller that we just kept going with the 2hr./20 min. routine and he lasted for 12+ hours - didn't fuss until we were about 30 min. from home.:happy030: I hope that your trip goes as well.:crsfnger:

I vote for Chanel or Cece because either flows so well with Chelsea and Cassidy. :flower1:
