My baby has the worst breath. It seems to get worse daily. She is an extremely clean dog, so it is not associated with hygiene. Prissy is very healthy (hope). ???

Hehehehehe. Sorry but all of my friends say dachshunds have the absolute worst breath. As long as the vet says nothing is wrong, your dog is probably normal. If the teeth are clean and the gums healthy and you know there is no gastrointestinal problems going on your dachsie is probably just normal. There are some dog toys out that have breath freshener in them http://dachsie.org/ubb/smile.gif

Lucky for me, Owen doesn't have bad breath... Now, stinky feet (frito feet) are a whole different story!! Like Cindy said, they have great chewy toys that are good breath fresheners. One is by Nylabone and are Spearamint(sp) flavored bones. I hear they work great!!

yeah, my Baby has bbad breath on occasion. It's usually not that bad, but she has her days. And it's those days that she wants to give more kisses than usual!

One of our dachsunds has bad breath too. We tried different toys taht were supposed to help. We have been giving Breath Tabs as treats a few times a day. They have good stuff like chlorophyll, charcoal, and mint in them (they are specifically made for dogs). These seem to help, and it is a nice alternative to many treats which have sugar in them and would make the breath worse.

We recently adopted a male doxie from DRNA. His breath was UNBELIEVABLE when he came to us. His teeth were also in bad shape. He had gingivitis with an infection which made his breath very bad. My vet started him on an antibiotic before his teeth cleaning (7 days). After appx. 3-4 days on this antibiotic, his breath was great!!! Then he had his teeth cleaned. What I am getting at is the smell was from the gingivitis infection because even before the teeth were cleaned it got better from the abx. Even though your dog is clean, etc, he/she may have something else going on systemicly, and NO bones, toys, etc will help. Good luck.

bad breath in dachsies can easily be cleared up with the right diet. I don't feed mine kibble anymore, they now get raw meats, raw bones, and vegies. Teeth are sparkling clean all the time, never needs cleaning. Breath is great.

this may seem VERY gross, but this is the cause for my toy's (lg's) bad breath. her father has the same problem. when we took her to the vet for her shots, we mentioned her breath and the vet (the owner of her father) mentioned the condition that caused it. the glands in her butt get clogged or something and that causes bad breath. you should try that, take your dog to the vet and have them squeeze those glands. a bile-like fluid comes out. trust me, it makes the breath much better. when lg gets bad breath, we call her lbsbg (little bitty stinky breath girl) instead of lg (little girl)...yeah yeah we're cheeseballs. if you have any more questions, email me at pucca@hotmail.com
