We have 3 huge pine trees in my backyard. Recently, Vasia has figured out ways to go under them for shelter or for fun.
Each day when i let him back into the house, i find new traces of sap on his coat. He now has sap on his ear, chin, belly, and chest.

I have trouble getting it out with shampoo and water. I want to stop this from happening, but i do not want to stop Vasia from having his pine tree adventures:flowerysmile:

So now i just need someone to tell me how to get these sap spots out!

Thank you,
Kseniya

I have found over the years that with our dogs and us that butter seems to work quite well. Work it into the fur where the pine pitch is and it will take out the pine pitch. The stuff is evil as far as I am concerned and can be a real pain the neck. Oh and you may have to give your pup a bath afterward. At times the four leggers like the taste of the butter so you may end up competing to get the job done. I am sure there may be more sophisticated methods now and dare I say more expensive but I learned this from my old Granny out on Cape Breton and she knew her stuff. Can't hurt to try and good luck.

Vinagar works wonders on all sorts of things, might give that a try. It recently saved my daughter a haircut after she got all tied up in homemade silly puddy at a birthday party where they did a science project.

It might be worth reading the label on a bottle of Goo Gone.

I've heard of these remedies:

Peanut Butter (the oil in it is what does the trick)
Olive Oil (or any cooking oil)
Dawn Dish Detergent

Good luck!

I know peanut butter is good for getting gum out of hair, when my son was small he layed down in bed with us and lost a big wad of gum right in dads head. We used p.butter and it worked pretty good.

Ty sometimes gets sap on his paws and any cooking oil works. I rub it in and then have a wash cloth after to wipe the oil off. Dish detergent does not work as well the oil breaks the sap down faster.

I know on the beach if you stepped on a tar ball best thing is baby oil ( it breaks down the petroleum base)but on a dog, not to upset his tummy cooking oil should be do the trick.

I've used mayonnaise, but anything oily should work.

Peanut butter works very well. Here in Deep East Texas, pine trees are the main tree and have found that the peanut butter works. Did not know this until a little bit ago when someone else asked and Cat told us about the peanut butter.

I work in a "glue factory" and we use baby oil to get the glue off our skin and hair, it works great and is safe.
