Ok I'm thinking about trying to trim the fur between Chief's pawpads, and I don't know where to start. I usually have the vet tech trim up his feetie-fur when they trim his nails, but his nails really don't need trimming right now. His pawpads, however, are being taken over by feetie-fur and he has no traction on the vinyl kitchen floor.
Since a dremel freaks him totally out, I don't think he would be very good with me using clippers around his feet. Other suggestions? Manicure scissors? Nair? (just kidding :D)
And WHY are dachsunds so picky about their feet anyway? Is this breed specific? I've tried and tried to touch and gently rub both dogs' feet when they're resting on my lap, even when they're asleep, to desensitize them, but no way....they both tolerate about 15 seconds of human hand to dachsie foot contact, and then they yank back their paw and act like I've beaten them :sorry:

I use my safety, first aid scissors and kinda hack away at Valentin's feet.
I hear he was good as gold for the groomer and her clippers :banghead:, but his fur grows too fast to be paying that kind of money every couple of weeks. I have been trying to stay on top of it now that the groomer gave us a good base to work from. :goodluck:
(maybe while the fur is wet??)

I use to trim Abby's toe hair. I either used a small pair of sissors or I would use a moustache trimmer. I just grabbed on to her paw and trimmed away. She didn't like it but would let me trim and I talked to her while I was doing it and like I said tried to do a quick job. Sometimes I would do the two front paws then later that day I would do the back ones. I have heard that dachsies really are funny about their feet. :wonky:

I usually comb the hair straight up and the with the shears I trim the hair off going the the curve of the foot. I wouldn't trim the hairs between the toes as it show each toe unless you like that look.
I trim all the all hair under the foot into the under pads. That is where they sweat so it helps keep them cooler.

I either use scissors or an electric shaver on Mousses's feet. I have him stand up on the bathroom counter and then I just start buzzing away at his back feet, then move to his front. He sometimes tries to bit/lick the shaver but he hasn't succeeded yet.

Dogs in general do not like their feet messed with.
I never trim D's feet hair. I think it looks cute and we call them her "slippers".

I use one of those small battery operated trimmers.. unless I already have the big trimmers out.
You really need to play with their feet every day.. quite letting them win!! Just a couple of rubs.. and then a little treat. Badger is my bad boy with his feet but even he lets me get it done eventually now and puppy ( 1 yr old) was only a problem the first couple of times.

Actually I do massage her toes everyday!:sillylove:
I have always done that because I LOVE the looks of her little short legs and the furry slippers:sillylove:. I also trim her nails with the kind of clippers that look "scissor like". I have to admit she doesn't love it but does tolerate it:0210:. I usually sit outside on the deck to do it and then give her a good brushing!
