Well we had a great time at the NEOD Picnic. It was the first time we had taveled that far with the dogs. Well all three of them did extremely well; except the first night there was an elevator and Auggie and Gabe were freaked. The next morning I decided we should take the steps and they all three froze at the top; we have no steps! With a little encouragement they did come down the steps less stressed than the elevator ride. They had never stayed in a motel before and there was no barking; maybe they didn't see it as their territory.
Our motel experience was great and that is what I wanted to share about and ask if you have had similar experiences or if this is unusual. The first night we stayed at a Red Roof Inn, I had made the reservation online throught Orbitz. Well, when we arrived the desk clerk told me they had a walk-in special and we could have it and that saved $5.00. We also had a king bed instead of the double. I reminded her that we were traveling with the dogs and she said no problem. The next day when we checked out, different desk clerk, we found she had not charged us the pet fee; so we saved $35.00 on our stay! The next three nights we stayed at a Days Inn and again were honest that we had three dogs. I noticed she looked at me funny and asked if I was told the pet policy and I said yes, I was told $10 per pet, per night. She said okay and we got checked in. Well reading the book in the room I saw it said a two dog limit which I specifically asked about when making the reservation and was told no limit; I guess that's why she looked at me funny. Well we decided to checkout a day early and stay with friends the fourth night. The desk clerk was very nice and we chatted as I signed the credit card slip, not really looking at it. When I looked at it later, I found she only charged the pet fee for the first night and not the other two so we saved $60.00 on our three night stay! Needless to say we are pleased but I am curious, do motels/hotels routinely do this if pets are not a problem? That is the only reason I can think of other than an error on their part.
