My poor cat Francessca finally came home yetsterday. Mitzi was left over at granma and pops house so Fran could settle in for a few hours. It's a good thing we did it this way because when Mitzi came home she wouldn't leave her alone. She harrassed the poor thing and wasn't letting her do anything except hiss. I tried to keep Mitzi from doing by putting up a baby gate at the head of the stairs. Mitzi ended up sitting up there until I changed the location of the gate to the room I was in.
I can tell this is going to get old fast. Any ideas to get Mitzi to calm down?

I don't have cats, just the neighborhood ones, so I can't offer any advice other than TIME. Time and patience is about all we have to work with. One day Mitzi will have an epiphany, realize the cat isn't going anywhere and all will be right with the world. The challenge you face is keeping everyone injury free till that happens. I wish you luck.

You could always try the old barking standby the quirt bottle. I don't know if that will work in this case but it's worth a try.

Our dachshund loves cats, and my brother has a dachshund with 3 cats, they just need to get used to each other, it may take a week or two.

We've had our cat, Zoey for 15 years now. When she was a kitten, we got our dog, Toby. Though they did not like each other, they soon learned to tolerate each other being around.
Toby died, and we got Molly and Sammy. By this time, Zoey decided she did not want two little energetic dogs with her. Sammy is the typical dog that doesn't like cats. Molly was too eager to be friends. Actually, it was the dogs that got attacked, as Zoey does not care to bat at them with her claws out.
The only way that we were able to get any peace was to use the baby gate, as you have. The dogs stay downstairs, and Zoey stays upstairs. When it's time to eat or go out, we have another baby gate and keep the dogs in a room away from the kitchen so Zoey can eat and go out in peace.
If you keep the gate up, Francessca will soon learn that she'll be safe where she is and will stay away from the gate. At the same time, as long as Mitzi isn't allowed to stay at the gate and watch for the cat all the time, she'll learn that there isn't going to be any fun and should just give up.

The poor cat is going to be so confused - sometimes Mitzi won't leave her alone she'll just keep on giving doggie kisses on poor Fran's face and ears. And then it's back to barking and being mean again. So I think with a little more time and my stren "Leave the cat alone, get your butt in here," we'll do okay.

As soon as I lived on my own I got my first cat. The family all dislikes them. BUT now my brother and his wife have one too. Anyway, I also have had several other animals at a time. The best thing is to let them work it out. The cat didn't seem to razzled. You might notice all of a sudden some day they will be sleeping on the same chair etc. But there are others that never love each other they just tolerate the existance of the other....
Good Luck! Hizz Eouwwwww!!!! Whimper go get a toy and feel all beter...... :book: There's always lots of advice from behaviorelists. Spelling? Just keep one eye on them for safety.:dizzy: :caffeine:
