Saturday was Tye's first time in the conformation ring.. it was too bad there were no other wires entered other than those who already had their championships (these are called 'specials') Tye was entered in the 12-18 month old dog class.. got a 1st *the judge could have withheld it lol* but he also got a lot of good experience.. as it was a very crowded show site. He stood like a statue on the table for exam and did everything well except he sniffed the ground too much on his stroll away from the judge and back.... this is where they access movement. He did better when the 2 specials were in front of him. He did the same on Sunday with Cindi handling him since I had a conflict in Rally with Badger.
Tye's next show will most likely be in Belton, TX (in between Waco and Austin ) at the end of November... lots of time to work on the sniffing!!

:bouncy1: Way To Go, Karen and Tye!!:bouncy1: Obviously the judge liked what he saw (and why not? Tye is such a good looking pup!) or he would have withheld the first place ribbon.:party011: Conformation Question: Why do people who already have championships on their dogs (specials) still enter into the ring? What are they working to achieve beyond the championship?

Some people just *like* showing.. A lot of dogs like it too. Also, all the dogs you see at Westminster and the Eukanuba National Championships are all dogs that have earned their championships... and they then compete against each other. Kind of bragging rights, like any competition would be... but also a way to measure yourself against the Best of the Best so to speak.
The dogs that are specialed will most likely be the ones a breeder breeds.. a dog like Badger who earned his championship, but was not going to be bred (decided as he matured)... would not be and was not shown beyond that point.
My only goal for Tye is to get 3 conformation points on him (depends on the number of dogs being shown) and then the 'toys' will be removed as I have no intention of breeding him. He just needs the 3 points to qualify for a Versatility Certificate down the road.
Way to go Tye:cheer::cheer::congrats:
Plenty of time to work on the sniffing...He'll be great

Their dog gets seen by other breeders, plus someone has to win Best in Show!! Why not a dachshund??? :D

Sounds like he did great! Wish I could go to Belton to see you guys, but since they moved the CenTex show there and we have our big agility trial in McGregor that weekend, the trial secretary can't disappear in the middle of the trial...Good Luck!
