Just a question,
Because DOXIE'S are very fortunate, in that they do not have the typical "doggie smell" I was wondering what is the recommendation on bathing them? I live in the South(deep South) and I do not want to over do it, leaving her with extra dry skin!!
Thanks for any info available

Hi:
There is a lot of different opinions on this one. Depends on what if anything they have gotten into. Maybe I give them a bath once a month or even longer. Short hair, supposedly you give baths 3 times a year. If you brush daily or 2 or 3 times a week that should help. Be careful on selection of shampoo. Here is a great Doxie site to visit and be sure to check out Q&A, she has a lot of hints there for bathing etc.

Unless they get into something my dachsunds have averaged about 2-3 baths a year. IF they get jsut a little stinky the pump spray aby powder cleaner cand freshen them up. My current crew includes two LH and one smooth. The LH kids realy benefit from combing several times a week. By the way it's rather common for me to get comments about how good the boys coats look.

 If a dachsie has skin allergys is it wise to bathe him more often and what kind of shampoo should be used. Is oatmeal shampoo ok. Snoopy also does the snorting and wheesing, in the last month I have put a sears electronic air cleaner in the room he stays in the most and his snorting has really been a lot less. Could his snorting and wheesing be assoicaited with air born allergys? Also the itching could that be air born?

Depending on what the allergies are, I have gotten some VetMed universal medicated shampoo from my vet that I had to use every 3 days until a skin condition cleared up. Most of my dogs get bathed when they have to which is about every 3 months or so, depending on what is available to roll in. Skin allergies are sometimes related to fungal/bacterial infections. They may also be related to food allergies or flea dematitus. Has your vet taken a skin scraping? Rena and the Waco pack

My mom has an Egyptian Pharaoh Hound that is absolutely terrified of water. She uses baby wipes to clean her up as needed. They are non-toxic, smell wonderful, and even have moisturizers that soften the skin.
I am fortunate in that my dachsies both love bathtime, and frequently join me in the shower. I use an organic human shampoo that contains an alvacado extract. It really helped Gidget's danderuff.
