Ok everyone who has piebald dachsies or other breeds with large areas of white....I gotta question. Speckles has the most glorious full chest of fluffy white hair...it's gorgeous right after a bath. BUT....I'm noticing it looks a little dingy, yellowish, especially right on the front point of his breastbone. It probably brushes the dirt and grass outside, and it may dip into the food/water dishes. Anyway, what can I do to get it brighter and whiter? I don't want to bathe him often, because I've just finally gotten his coat to shine and his skin to stop flaking (Blue Buffalo kibble and Missing Link Supplement :cheer:). I'd just like to brighten his frontage.

Not a big issue, but hey, who doesn't want their whites whiter? :happy030:

Speckles' big fluffy chest....see the slightly off-whiteness?

you could try the bath wipes for the in-between cleanings.... or when you bath him, use a shampoo for white dogs... they usually have a bit of a blue-tint to them that makes the white very platinum. It won't do any harm to his dark bits, but it will make his white gleam!!!!

As far as him getting his chest dirty, i'm sure that as he continues to lose weight he probably wont be draggin' himself as much... but if its just how the hair lies to get dirty-- i'm afraid not much can be done to keep it pristine 100% of the time...

he's so cute and fluffy!!!!

Awww, what a doll!!! BLUE shampoo will do the trick, but I don't know about the day-to-day activities that will dirty/yellow it? We had an apricot/white poodle and she was soooo bright after her bath using the Hertz blue shampoo. Does a great job...in fact, I use human blue shampoo to brighten my own hair!! (Not Hertz....)

I love Missing Link. I haver been using it for about 3 years on G&P. Check into www.petedge (http://www.petedge) and see if you can find anything there, they have all kinds of shampoos and contitioners.

Tracy check out petedge they have quite a few whitening shampoos. I got a new catalog this week and I just looked thru it. Also Petsmart carrys Fresh and Clean shampoo/conditioners and they should have a shampoo for that.

I would just use the whitening shampoo as a "spot cleaner" on his chest only. Don't bathe his entire body....just his chest. Which by the way is very handsome:hubbahubba: along with the rest of him:sillylove:.

Mia is as white a doxie as I ever saw and we use a shampoo our vet recommended. It is called efa HyLyt from DVM Pharmaceuticals. It has essential fatty acids and is soap-free, hypollergenic, and good for dry or sensitive skin too. Works great, you don't need to use a lot, and your doxie will be white as snow.
