Well, another trip to the grocery store come and gone. As always, gotta get the puppies new toys and treats. I stand in Walmart, nosing through the dog toys, and I couldn't decide on what to get. My dachsies have too many toys as it is-- But, what can I say. I'm addicted. On a whim, I stroll down to look at the cat toys. That's where I found it. A fuzzy little mouse on an elastic string, connected to a metal brace that can be hung on a door frame. Typical cat toy. Why haven't I thought of it before? I got it home and Gidget hasn't left it alone since. I hung it just high enough that she has to give a little hop to get it. She grabs it and takes off running, until the cord is fully extended, lets go and sends the mouse flying. Buddy Lee tries to get in on it, too, but he hasn't quite figured out what he's supposed to do once he has the mouse. He just kinda sits there.

I'm gonna start shopping in the cat aisle more often.

I've thought of getting cat's toys before, but everything just looked too FLIMSY for López...Let us know how long it lasts! :)

I had the same toy for my cat; Snicker's; well...Charlie killed it:fierce:

He kinda rough with the toy's so I have to make sure I buy him sturdy thing's. That's why the plastic circle with the ball in it is perfect. He hasn't been able to get that dang ball yet!! LOL

Today it's 66* & I've opened up the front porch & window's; all the kid's are outside & there's my sweet Chjarlie sleeping in the sun beam that run's across our porch. What a doll..priceless!!

Two days have passed and the mouse is still alive-- well, minus it's tail. But, Gidget's never really been rough with her toys. I truely lucked out. She's never chewed up anything that wasn't supposed to be chewed on in the first place. Give her a pig ear or a raw hide and it will be history in a matter of minutes; but shoes, furniture, and everything else most dogs would normally chew, she ignores.

Buddy Lee, on the other hand, has only one fetish- underwear. :nono:

All dirty underwear most be promptly put into the dirty clothes hamper, or you won't get them back.

López's trying to rip his rubber Pluto's head off at this very moment!

When I had CC, she was really careful with her toys. She loved stuffed animals and would carry them around and sleep with them. Then came Bogart. He would grab them and rip the eyes and noses off! It was awful. I'd tell him "This is CC's don't tear it up" and he'd look at me like "Give it to me. I want to rip it's face off!" What a terror!

I bought some pillows for the couch, but Juney "killed" one of them, so I can't put them on the couch when we aren't using them.

If you look at Buddy Lee's pics in the Brag Book, that's what he and Gidget are playing with. Also, the one with him showing his tummy. He has finally figured out how to pull it back and let it go.

I found another really cool cat toy. It's a cloth butterfly with krinkle paper sewn inside it. So, when they bite it, it makes krinkly noises. They love it. Maybe because it sounds a lot like someone opening a bag of potato chips!

Or two sweet doxies! :)

Jake and I just might have to take a walk through the cat isle at the store...see if there is anything he won't destroy in 30 seconds... I would at least like things to last for a full 2 minutes :D

So far no toys have gone to the big toy box in the sky because of Miss. Casey killed her first stuffed piggy and racoon (ripped their heads off). She has balls, and ropes and rubber squeakie toys all over the house but her absolute favorites are the stuffies with the squeaker in them. She mostly carries the frog around and works him over a bit and I got her a new purple dinosaur yesterday and she likes him really well too (brought him to bed last night).
Casey never has payed any attention toys, he never has played with them even though I have bought them for him and tried to teach him to play with them. He was always like NO! My angel Molly used to look at the toys and then look at me like I really think this is beneth me Mom! Casey will kill leather and fleece in a second if possible but he dosent play with them. I am now in search of some Leather dog toys for Casey.

I should never be allow to go to petsmart alone. I am addicted to puppy toys. Casey never liked them and neither did my angel Molly so I am enjoying buying all the toys for Missy.

toys for my clan due only to Kamper. He will completly destroy it in seconds flat.
I have never had a doxie that does that. My Casey loved her toys would carry them with her and usually slept with them.
I know that Maggie and Cosmo like the stuffed animals but they dont ever get them long enough to enjoy them before Kamper grabs them and shreds them.
Anyone know of any form of toys that I can buy that cannot be shredded in 10 seconds flat.:afraid:

My Willie has numerous stuffed toys and he has yet to destroy one. In fact he just found one of my old stuffed dogs in my bedroom and brought it out to play with. He loves to just clench and shake them a lot. I don't know. With what y'all are saying your dogs do, I wonder if Willie just isn't a bit of a wimp!!:)

You dont have a wimp you have a babe that enjoys his stuffed animal and respects it. :circle:
I dont know what makes Kamper shred his maybe he is just the ultimate destroyer:caffeine:
Or he just hates stuffing for some reason.
Not all doxies do this just some.
Hmmm maybe he has some built up anger against the little beast for some reason:raz:
Maybe he thinks its a monster and he must DESTROY:fierce:

Gotta love them doxies:dog:

PetsMart? I have had very good luck with the "Canvas Squeaky Toy". There are 3 designs. One is shaped like a dog bone - 2 sizes, one is a football (have not had this one), and one is shaped like a star, but it is vaguely human-shaped. They are $3.99 for the star and bone shaped ones - we sent one to a dachsie in WA and he has not chewed a hole in his yet! Brekke - aka "Jaws Brown" hasn't chewed a hole in hers or her sisters', and we sent 2 to Gretl's boyfriend and his brother in MI - no holes yet. We'll be taking some to our dachsie friends in TX in early May, but so far, so good! I hope you find some - or email me, and I'll see if I can find some more - I sorta bought out the current supply...:) Julia B.

P.S. Mark, have I mentioned how MUCH I appreciate the "edit" button???? JB

As a word of warning I have used those cats on the sting for my cats. When I left it out and had left the house. The only true safe time to have it out was when the dogs were in the crates. So I would put it up when I was leaving. But ended up with a cat having it wraped around its leg. Lucky it wasn't around his neck because he could have choked. But I never would put it out after that unless I was with in eye sight of the play time. :caffeine:
I hope they keep enjoying it, I finally had to toss mine. Those darn doxies are just to fast. :fierce: That kill the rat instinct. Oh well, we stick with the hard chew toys. Some of the Irish Water Spaniel people get their dogs chew toys. Yup they buy the tires! OK so they are the kind you put on those little go carts. OMG! :raz:

Well, the little mouse has finally gone to cat toy heaven. The puppers sent it on it's way there this morning. They chewed his little string in two and then toted him outside to finish him off. He had a good run thought, almost three weeks. Not a bad investment for a $3 toy.

maryanne

Ha ha! Poor little mouse.

But as you say three weeks isn't bad for a cat toy in Dachsie hands. Er...paws. Er... or jaws!

carpet gator
04-02-2003, 08:25 AM
Definitely the jaws! Sometimes I think these little dogs should have their own theme music like the movie. I can just picture a field of tall, wavy grass... the music... then the high held tail of a wiener dog cutting through like a shark's fin.

I have found the only thing that really lasted a long time in our house are toys made from canvas material. I think they're used to train dogs to retrieve or something:sarcastic
Mandy is the toy killer , we bought her a stuffed hamburger from petsmart once. We gave it to her and turned around to unpack our other bags and turned back around and the stuffing was all over the living room. Now we stick with squeaky balls or barbells . If they put a hole in it they can't choke on the stuffing( I always worry about that  )
Buddy likes to take his toys and shake them and run across the living room with them. His favorite toy is his rope. He'll chew on the knot for a long time. His next favorite toy is an empty water bottle. He likes to push it with his nose across the floor and carry it by the handle and run as fast as he can with it.:bounce:

that Brekke successfully began de-stuffing the canvas squeaky toy from PetsMart on Saturday - sigh! It did last for 9 weeks, though. She hasn't done any more to it, but I could tell she was thrilled to have "kilt" it! At least her sissies haven't demolished theirs... although Brekke may step in and help them with that!

What is it about stuffing that fascinates them so much?!

carpet gator
04-10-2003, 01:42 PM
Gidget doesn't mind stuffing, but she has a thing for tennis ball fuzz. She gets a new ball, and immediately begins picking the fuzz off of it. We have several bald tennis balls around here.

maryanne

Yep (sigh), López does the tennis ball fuzz thing too...
