Well...we had decided NOT to get another dog at this time...and the next day the lady selling this puppy started to email me pictures of her! :duh: How could I resist this little one?! I kept thinking about her and of course I ended up getting her. We named her Biscuit. She's 9 1/2 weeks old now. We've had her for a week now and things are working out fine with her and Max.

She simply stole my heart and I knew she had to come home with me. When I went to see her, she had a bump on the bridge of her nose where another dog had bitten her near her eye. Our vet said it could get infected because it had fluid in it that she could move around...but as you can see from her picture taken today, it has healed up very nicely. Biscuit also has bilateral inguinal hernias. The lady I got her from said it was no big deal and that they'd probably close on their own. Our vet said, no, they looked like they would definitely need surgery. She told me the signs to watch for with regards to hernia strangulation and the vet seemed pretty concerned about that. She said that if need be, emergency surgery could be done, but we're hoping that Biscuit can wait until she's 6 months old to get her hernia surgery with her spaying. They don't like to put dogs under when they're too young - so that would only happen as a last measure if she started getting sick.
Biscuit was rather skittish at first with any slight movement around her like she was on hyper-alert mode. She was the only puppy with 10 adult dogs around her, so I think she might have been picked on a little. She's a very happy, very sweet little girl and I'm just thrilled to have her! She's smart too...after just one week with us, she knows not to chew on our hands and not to jump on Max. Quick learner! Potty training is next and that will be her big test...
On the evening that we brought her home, I saw a rainbow in the sky. My daughter was in the backseat with her new puppy saying "Mom! She's just a MIRACLE!!!" and I looked at the rainbow, getting teary-eyed, and said "Thank you, Jasper." I don't know whether Jasper somehow knew this little girl needed a home and sent her to us...but I'd like to think so. I don't see rainbows often at all here - so I'm taking that as a sign. Biscuit is such a wonderful girl...you know she's being showered with lots of TLC! :loveshower:

She is just too cute. Congrats on the new puppy. I'm glad you got her. Walmart has some small harnesses--looks like shirts for about 5 dollars-they are in their boutique sections.

How much does she weigh?
Jaxmom
09-05-2008, 06:44 PM
I'm not really sure how much she weighs. Feels like about 1 ounce! They weighed her at the vet's office, but I didn't notice. She eats 1/2 cup of food a day. Her parents are both very tiny little Doxies so I don't think she'll be very big. I'll bet her parents weighed in the 7 pound range. Our vet started her over on vaccines because there was no paperwork from a real vet saying her shots had actually been given. The lady said she'd had her first shots, but the vet said she probably gave them herself and the shots may have been old or not stored properly...so better safe than sorry to restart her vaccinations. The vet said this wouldn't hurt her, it would just ensure that she was properly vaccinated.

Make sure she gets the parvo-cause Phoenix had a real bad outbreak a couple of months ago and a lot of dogs died or had to be put down. A lot of the rescues and some kennels were affected.
Don't want to scare you. I would get her all the shots she needs to start off with or whatever is required, and then next year if you don't blieve in giving shots do a titer test.

Are you free feeding her? Puppies should be free fed for a while since they are growing soooo fast. :)

I was never a beliver in 'signs' until we lost Tinker Belle, we wnet ot pick her up & I told hubby I wanted a b/t male, got on petfinder & a b/t male was the 1st one on, he was surrendered the day we lost her & his name was Bossco, ( Hubby always called Anne & Tinker Rossco & Bossco) so that was my sign. So I too believe Jasper sent Biscuit to you. Congratulations on your new baby! she is a keeper!

Oh she is sweet. I have an Aunt whos dog was having real bad eye problems. She spent 3 grand trying to fix it and the doctors said she would loose her eye.
When her wiene dog was sick, and had to be put down, she said she told her to tell God about her other dogs eye. No joke, the next day, her dogs eye was better. The vet could not believe it. It made me cry when she told the story.
I believe she was sent to you too.

What a complete little cutie pie. I too have to comment on the little wrinkles on her teeny head. I love them. I think there is nothing cuter than a baby doxie with the little head wrinkles. They are so adorable. Congratulations on the beautiful new baby girl sent from heaven to you. Give her lots of hugs and kisses from me.

How's the puppy breath, I miss that.

Yes, her puppy wrinkles are quite cute! Biscuit just has the sweetest personality. Max sleeps at my feet. Biscuit has to sleep near my face. It's so funny...if I try to move her at all, she's right back in her "comfort spot" which is on my shoulder with her little body along my neck and often times with her little head up on my chin. She wraps herself around my neck and snuggles in. It's like she's trying to get as close to my face as physically possible for her. Sometimes her little head is on my ear, sometimes in the crook of my neck, sometimes on the side of my cheek...and like I said, if I can't sleep well this way and I try to move her down a little...oh, no...she's right back up there nestling in!!! It's a comfort thing for her I guess...I'll bet she used to snuggle up to her real mama a lot too...she's a mama's girl! I've never had a dog do this before. She's just such a sweetheart...I am so blessed to have her with me! (I have even found her laying with Max a few times! It's soooooooooo cute to see them laying together. Max has been very patient and very gentle with her.)
