Just a quick note to celebrate our Charlie's "gotcha day". We adopted our sweet boy one year ago today! :sillylove:

He, being a mill dog, has gone through so much but has changed dramatically in this short time. When we first brought him home he tried desperately to escape until he realized that we loved him and were going to be nothing but kind towards him. It took some time but he soon learned that he had no need to fear us. I am thrilled to say that he has adjusted wonderfully. He is very affectionate and has recently started to become a bit of a watch dog. By that I mean he just barks when anyone approaches our home (a surprisingly deep bark for a doxie!). This is pretty amazing as he didn't bark at all for the first eight months that we had him!!

He loves the big bed, toys and his new siblings who were adopted after him. Charlie is a sweet and special boy (thanks, Bren!). Yes, he will always have some quirks, but they just make us love him all the more. :hug2:

Anyway, got to go and spoil Charlie - we are treating this day as his birthday. Lots of loving and treats in store for him! :0210::stars:

Thanks to you all for your support.

Everyone on this forum was here to help Linda & I when we lost Casper, then you were all right there again when we adopted Charlie and yet again when we took in the girls, Tammy & Lily. Then, once more, we were honored to have your well wishes when we adopted Jessie.

We'd like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything. :grouphug:

We love our mini pack! Charlie truly enjoyed his "gotcha day", he loved the treats and affection that we had in store for him. Admittedly he was a bit confused, not quite understanding why the focus was on him. But he had fun, nevertheless.

We have come to the realization that there is no greater love; and that we are the ones who are truly blessed. Hug your doxie today. :hearts:

I can remember that day back in 2006 when you got here sweet Charlie and how frightened you were. This poor boy would not even come in the house the first couple of months. He hid in my barn and must have thought we were going to harm him. I would go out every day and just sit in the barn on a hay bale and talk to him and let him see that I would never hurt him. Soon he would look at me and then he would move a little closer and a little closer until I could hand him a treat which he never ate until I left. It was a long road here and then he went to foster for another 6 months of socializing before he could be adopted. He is to date the most terrified Mill dog I have ever taken in. He has seen horrors in his former life and some he may never forget. Thank you so much Judy and Linda you took a chance on this sweet boy and welcomed him into your home regardless of the hard work you would need to continue with him. You are amazing ladies and the dogs with you are lucky souls! Thanks again for being a wonderful home again and again! Hugs from all of us.

Thank YOU Bren!

Charlie is such a joy. It was difficult at first to gain his trust, but Linda and I understood why he was so frightened and tried to simultaneously welcome him, but give him some time and space to adapt. He is doing so amazingly well! We both think that adopting the three girls has helped him very much. He now has a full, loving family - both canine and human!

He'll always be my sweet little boy, we share a tremendous bond. Just imagine Charlie who would not willingly come within several feet of a human, now running to sit with us, cuddle and give kisses. A great achievement for him in one year. We're certain that there are many more to come!

Thank you for bringing him into our lives.
