Caramel is officially ours now. :party011: We have switched her food to raw just like other two and she loves it!
She is doing real well with Junji and Molly and I don't feel threatened to have her in the family at all anymore.
I made an appt. to see a behaviorist on Sept. Since Caramel came from a shelter, they gave us a free inicial consultation with a behaviorist. Well, it was reschduled four times. Mean time Caramel had another biting incident which was provoked by someone outside of the family who didn't understand our instruction to deal with her.
Finally we got to see Dr. Marder yesterday.
Caramel did real good and the following was the plan Dr M gave us.
Diagnosis: Fear- induced aggression, Territorial aggression
Prognosis: Fair ( she explained it to me that since she has been having the issues for 5 and 1/2 years, she couldn't state "GOOD".)
Treatment Plan:
1) For now, confine her whenever people outside of my family visit. Crate or put behind gate.
2) Nothing in Life is Free: All the dogs must sit before I do anything for them : Before petting, greeting, opening a door, leash, play
meal treat.
3) Do-it-yourself sit-stay
4) Try to teach to down-stay
5) Greeting exercise next time
6) Recheck in 2 weeks Monday 10/27 3:00 PM
She is doing real well on sit-stay exsercise.:stars:
We are so happy to hear from Dr. M that she should do real well on the program. My husband and daughter were so worried Dr. M might suggest to put her down, they even asked me not to take her to see Dr. M.
It may take a long time to see any result and we don't know how much could be modified but I promised Caramel I would do my best to help her.
Indeed she is "Caramel Hernandez" now. I am ordering her new tag to match with the other two tonight.
Thank you all for your rays and prayers.:thanx:
I almost forgot to mention. There was a photographer who was taking picts to put on the web site. Caramel will be featured.:happy030:
