My 9 month old standard smooth dachshund has black rough spots under his front legs. I just noticed these a couple of days ago and have no idea what they may be caused from. The only thing I can think of is he has a large round stuffed toy that he locks his front legs into so that you have to fight to get it from him. Then he likes you to throw it, he fetches it, brings it back, and when you go to grab it, he jumps on it, locking his front legs into it. Maybe the pulling (tug-of-war) to get it from him is chafing his skin? Does anyone else have a similar problem?

If the black spots are under his "arms" then it could be "acanthosis nigricans," a hereditary skin disorder found commonly in dachsies. I am trying to figure out how to completely eliminate it, but it has diminished a lot through a raw diet I have mine on.
I refer you to "the Ultimate Diet, Natural Nutrition for Dogs & Cats" by Kymythy Schultze.

I think it's a book? Not 100% sure though.

I bought it recently. It's mostly about feeding a BARF diet (bones and raw foods). Interesting reading, but I've found that many recommend a strictly meat-based raw diet now as opposed to this book which also includes some fruits & vegies.
