Introducing Pedro, Dachshund #10!

Yes, we now have 10! pedro joined us today from Massachusetts.

He is handicapped, but he never used a wheelchair cart. Well, I just happen to have Johanna's old cart, so I put him in it. He took to it immediately! He can now walk around with the rest of the gang!

The other dogs took to Pedro immediately. They have never done this before! Pedro is so laid back and happy. Within minutes he was playing with the gang like he had been here for years.

pedro is also epileptic. He takes a pill twice a day to prevent having seizures. Although I am very familiar with epilepsy in humans, I have never dealt with it in a dog before.

You guys are amazing. I am so glad Pedro is fitting right in like he's been there all along.

My sis-in-law adopted an adult male who had seizures as well and took meds twice daily. He did have a serious seizure and died in her arms very early one morning. Heartbreaking. I know that you will treasure him every day. He's a lucky boy to be welcomed into your pack.

Pedro looks like uno muey macho sombrero...that is pig-spanish for one very bad dude :laughitup: He looks like he fits in quite well with the gang, and that last picture - maybe he was yawning or laughing, but whatever he was doing, he is one happy dachsie!

Toby had idiopatchic epilepsy, meaning they coudndn't figure out what caused it. I tried to not put him on the meds but they were getting bad so we did. He took phenobarb, twice daily (once controlled him) and potassium bromide (an old treatment, has to be compounded into liquid or capsules). He knew the pills helped, he would take them out of my hand, i didn't have to put them in cheese or anything, and the liquid too, although it was cherry flavored. When he had a seizure, he didn't loose control of his bladder or bowel so I just held him if i were there. Before he was going to have one he would go and hide, or try to stay under the desk, low in a corner...He'd shake, and his neck would turn backwards like he was trying to reach his back...i just tried to comfort him. One time i was eating fries and he was having a seizure so i grabbed and he wanted a fry..mid seizure. So they are coherenet in my opinion. He was reaching for it while his head was all turned around..sad but kind of funny. Hope this helps I know other people have personal experiences too.

Paul, I am so very sorry that this has happened. Know that my thought and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time. Pedro is at the Bridge now and he is running on all of his legs and playing with Little Termi man and having a wonderful time.
