Odor

When we get Baby out of the tub she smells great! After a few hours or after she has come from outside she seems to have a bit of an odor all over again. Is there something that we are not doing right or is it normal? I know that in the summer months or warm weather, dogs seem to have more of a odor when they come from outside but I wasn't sure about now (during the winter months).

What kind of Odor? Is it the traditional Frito Scent? You can't really wash that away, it's their special perfume and it flows from their stinky little feeties http://dachsie.org/ubb/wink.gif Is the odor coming from Babie's Ears? That would indicate mites or an infection. Owen can be stinky one minute and then odorless the next, and he never really has that traditional dog stink. Don't forget, you shouldn't be bathing your dachshund more than every 6-8 weeks (at the MOST). You dry them out, they have natural oils that keep them from getting flaky. What exactly is the Frito Scent? She smells for a little while sometimes so strong I can't stand for her to sit in my lap-kind of like a baby's dirty diaper- then a few hours later or the next day she's okay. Is that what they call the Frito Scent or is that something different that we should check into?

The only time my Rudy smells like a baby's diaper is when he's got gas (usually after he eats really fast)and it fades within a few minutes. Does he scoot around on his bottom and lick his anal area a lot? He may have irritated anal glands that need to be emptied. The frito scent usually radiates from their feet and it resembles the smell of Frito's Corn chips.
