Dogmother

Today was our 13th wedding anniversary and my daughter in law gave me the neatest present, she colored, highlighted, cut and styled my hair for me. I had been wanting to do it for a long time but finances kind of held me up. So when she heard that it was our anniversary she decided to do it for me.
As I was driving to Whitefish a the resort town with the day spa she works at I stopped at the little convenience store that is on the way into town to get a soda. There is a lady that works there that also raises dachshunds and we always chat about our dogs and such. Well today was her day off and she had been trying to get ahold of me since earlier in the day. Everyone there knew my name but the didn't know exactly where I lived and my phone number isn't listed so she had left a message that if I came in to call her immediately. So I called her and she told me that this elderly lady that lived in town had a female piebald dachshund that she needed to find a home for immediately, or she was going to have to take her to the shelter. The lady recently lost her husband and also has to have surgery on both her knees after Thanksgiving and after that was going into an assisted living facility and she couldn't have her dog. Her son was coming to get her in the morning to stay with him until her surgery and she had to find a place for Beatrix.
I decided that I would take her until I could find her a home or get her into a rescue so that she wouldn't have to go to the shelter. I stopped and got her on my way home and brought her home with me. She is a very sweet black and tan pie girl. I was thinking to myself as I drove home that Wayne was going to kill me, but I knew once I explained to him that it was only temporary he would be fine with it. Well, I got her home and introduced to the crew and she fit in as if she had lived here all her life. Right now I have 5 adult doxies and 4 doxie puppies piled on and around me in my chair.
Wayne got home and at first didn't even notice the extra dog bouncing around with all the greeting chaos of everyone else. Then he looked at Beatrix and then at me with a what the heck look and I told him her story. I got to the part about finding her a good home and by this time he was sitting down with Bee on his lap for a snuggle and he said between doxie kisses "I think she already found a good home."
So now our doxies number 5 adults. She is up to date on her shots, and is a very happy healthy girl. Her tail is going nearly all the time. She is housebroke and asks to go outside, she hasn't figured out the doggy door yet but we will work on that tomorrow. Her owner gave me all her records, so I have everything I need to know about her. I am so happy that she is with us for good. I will post some pictures of her tomorrow.
It broke my heart to take her from her little lady, the lady cried when she said goodbye to her but I promised her that I would find her a great home. I think she will be very happy to hear that she is going to be staying with us so I can take her in to visit her once in awhile.
