Hubby and I decide not to buy each other anything this year and use the money we normally spend to get away for the holidays. We want to go somewhere is warm. We are thinking about going to Grand Canyon and we will bring daisy with us. Has anyone brought your pup with you while visiting Grand Canyon? Thanks

I haven't but I hear about so many people taking road trips with their pups. I would think there are many pet friendly hotels. I wonder if you can actually take them to the canyon with you??? If not maybe there is a doggie daycare in the area. Playtime while you are sight seeing.

I would do some research on that. I know there are people that take donkey rides and you cannot take them also even though Hotels are pet friendly some do not let you keep the dogs in the hotel when you are gone.

When are you planning on going? The rim of the Grand canyon is at about 5,000 feet. When I went there about 10 years ago we went in May and the rim temp was in the 60's during the day and much cooler at night. The bottom of the canyon in much warmer but I don't think you can or would even want to take the dachshund along.

I don't know abut dogs at the Canyon itself. I will tell you to dress WARM!!! We went a few years back, okay more than a few since I was pregnant with #1, but we were dressed in our full East Coast winter gear. We had taken a bus up to the Canyon the day after Christmas, stayed overnight in a hotel up there and had a wonderful trip.

Right now it is cold cold cold at the Grand Canyon! They are having snow storms up north right now. It's beautiful but cold!:hearts:

Max has been to the Grand Canyon! We stayed in a pet friendly hotel in Flagstaff. However, it's hard to go in places if you have your dog with you. For dinners you kind of have to leave them in the hotel room and hope they don't bark...or get take out and eat in your hotel room. When I went into a gift shop, my husband had to wait outside with Max. You'll be more limited with what you can do.

Like Ruthie mentioned, the Grand Canyon is not warm during the winter...altho' it is very beautiful. Lots of snow expected there today and tomorrow. I've been there in the winter before and I thought I'd freeze!!! But...I'm used to hot weather so I'm a baby as far as weather goes. :Sun2:

We took Joey and Toby to the Grand Canyon when we were there. They were allowed, just needed to be on leash and "controlled."

We are finally back home from the trip. It was 8 days travel by car with tons of fun, drama and difference experience. Grand Canyon is very beautiful and fortunately the weather was warm when we were there. Actually this is my first time visiting south of the U.S. and it's so different than where I live. It's very beautiful and I :hearts: the warm weather. Daisy got really sick while we were visiting Grand Canyon (had severe dierrea after staying a dog hotel in Las Vegas). We stayed in a small town called Williams AZ where is near Grand Canyon. The first night we were there, she had to go every 2 hours. She had extreme runs with blood. :sick2:We were guessing she probably ate something from the dog hotel she stayed. (When we picked her up, I saw few yellow stains on her bed) We brought her to a local animal clinic in Flagstaff AZ (Canyon animal clinic) the next day morning. The vet prescribed her some antibiotics and special can food for her. She was back to herself that morning. I really want to recommend this clinic to everybody. (If you are traveling with your pup at Grand Canyon area in the future) They have a very wonderful service, great staffs, 24 hr emergency, nice facility and reasonable charge. ( exam + 10 days meds + 5 days food for $52.00 ) Can you believe that? At where we live, the vet will charge over $100 just for exam, not talking about meds and food. Anyway, other than that, the whole trip was great. Daisy is happy to be back home. She is exhausted and happy to be at her house. :zzzz:

:wavesmile: Welcome back and glad that you had a good trip all in all! Sorry to hear that Daisy was ill while you were away :sick2: but it sounds like with good care she was soon feeling better. Would love to see pictures of the Grand Canyon as I doubt I'll ever get there in my lifetime! (hint, hint!)

Glad to hear you had a good time ,sorry that your poor baby got sick! The Grand Canyon is a sight to behold, isn't it? I love Flagstaff,we go there when we feel the need for cold or cooler weather. Our mountains here in Mesa aren't anywhere near as spectacular as up there! Glad you made it home safe!:hearts::hearts:
