I got a call today from my sister. She has a co-worker who bought a little 13 week old red dapple male just yesterday. Unfortuanately she didn't clear it with her boyfriend who she lives with. Now she is trying to find a home for the little guy since the breeder won't take the puppy back unless there are health problems. I know this kind of stuff makes all of us crazy on the board!!! So....it looks like we may be adding the little guy to our gang. It is insanity! We have two already in this little house. Tell me don't do it...no don't tell me don't do it!! We are like two little kids picking out names and we haven't even seen the puppy yet. We have already agreed there is not room for 3 dogs in our bed so this one will have to sleep in his crate. I hope Bailey and Sammy hit it off with the little guy when he comes over this evening for a look see. Any advice?

Ummm.... we're probably not the best people to be asking for advice against getting another doxie. They are like tater chips. Can't have just one. I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest you take him. I know no one else will agree with me. :Sun2:
Keep him. Keep him. Keep him. chant with me people.

Oh I think its wonderful of you to take the little guy. Its exciting. We would love to have you come down to one of our meetups with your furbabies. The next one is January 25 here in Westerville. I will post more about it after the Holidays.
Also let me know if you plan on going to Ca. again this Spring to visit your daughter. I plan on going and may have with my daughters MIL from Minerva with me. We could have a Ohio/Ca DBB meetup with our Ca. DBB friends too.

Go and get the little one! What I don't understand is the breeder not wanting to take the baby back! Probably one of those puppy for Christmas things and we decided not to keep it. Poor baby, lucky you!!:hearts::goodluck:

It isn't a done deal yet but ....
We have always wanted a red doxie but have been able to restrain ourselves until now and this poor little guy is unwanted by the girl's boyfriend and that can't be good. Anyway since it is Christmas time we were thinking maybe Jingles, Cringle, Blitzen,Moses, or Angel. But these are good too....Tango, Tucker, Pepper, Cooper, Frankie.
Got any suggestions?

Oh I am so excited for you. You know three in a bed really don't take up that much more room than two. I have 5 in mine. lol Wouldn't want anyone to feel left out sleeping in a crate so I vote for bed rights too. lol While Phoebe was still here after Termi died we had 6 in bed with us. I just didn't have the heart to crate her after her bubby died so tragically so in the big bed she went.
As for them all getting along, mine love other doxies and I think I could bring a new one home every week and these guys would make them feel like family members. I was particuarly worried about it when Beatrix came home with me but my crew welcomed her as if she had lived here forever and had just been gone for a bit. You can probably expect a bit of growlies as they show the pup his place but I think it will all be fine.
Can't wait to see pics of the newest family member. Congratulations!!!!!
Have to add that I LOVE the name Jingles for a red dapple boy. How totally cute.
I also have to add "shame on the breeder for not taking the baby back" if any of my puppies need to be returned no matter what the reason they are welcome here and I will either keep them or find them a new home.

I don't get that either. I think a good, responsible breeder would take the puppy back if their concern was the wellfare of the puppy and not their pocket books. She just got the little guy last night. Isn't there some kind of law that says the consumer has 3 days to change their mind...buyer's remorse? Doesn't that apply to all transactions? It causes me some concern about the environment that this little guy was born into.

There will be plenty of room in the big bed for 3 puppers and the two of you! We usually have at least 5 puppers with us in bed. Scooter likes to sleep with Kaylee and Fred prefers his own bed on the floor. It is nice, cozy, and warm. Of course our sex life isn't the greatest but....

Yeah, that concerns me, too! I hope the puppy is healthy - doesn't sound like a good breeder, to me!

I want Tango but my husband isn't sure about that name and everyone says it sounds like big dog name. We actually had a name last night ...Opie as in Opie from the Andy Griffith show since he is little and red...but after spending the night with him I think he is not a "whistling long the lane with a fishing pole" kinda dog. So we are still working on the name...there is Pepper, Milo, Rascal (because he is!) and Digger. What do you think? Oh and the not putting another dog in bed...out the window already!!!

My Angel has turned out to be an Angel!! I swear dachsie's live up to the name they are given!!!!! If you want a "Rascal" then the name is perfect! But any name is great considering you are taking this little one in! Merry Christmas!!

Well, what about Mousse and Moose? One is mine, and the other is another dachsie on the board. LOL :D I think "big dog names" on small dogs is cute. :)
But I like the names you picked out last night too (esp. Opie and Milo). PICTURES!! We N-E-E-D pictures. :sillylove:

You've had him since last night and no pictures!!?
I think that's great of you to take him, but like others am concerned about the breeding, both of my breeders have in the contract that if it doesn't work out they have the right of refusal, and will take them no matter the reason.
As far as 3 in the bed, the more the merrier!!!
We have all 3 every night in bed.

He is so active we haven't been able to get a decent picture of him yet. Also I have never been able to figure out how to post pictures on this board. Can anyone explain how to do it in "Picture posting for Dummies" words?
I called the breeder myself yesterday and I came away feeling better. The breeder said the girl only had the pup for 7 hours when she called saying she changed her mind. I know that doesn't justify refusing a return but I can see the breeder's point of view. I think if she had called again saying she wasn't happy with her puppy the breeder would have had taken the puppy back. The breeder seemed very happy that her puppy had found a home with our 2 dogs. I think it just worked out for the best. Of course, my Bailey and Sammy are not so sure.

OK, well, that makes sense if she called after only 7 hrs, the breeder probably thought she was having a panic attack or something. Glad you talked to her and feel better about things.
As far as posting pics, there is a thread that should help you through it.
What do you use for sharing pics, photobucket, or one of the other websites that I cant think of the name of right now.
If you use photobucket I can help, but if you use one of the others, you probably would have to use their help site, or the thread on DBB that walks you through it.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
:goodluck: with the little one, and they will get used to him, Coco and Chanel are great with Murray now, but it took a little bit, and Coco still gets impatient with him sometimes.

Just a thought regarding a name... How about Max?! We named our dog Max after the little brown dog in the Grinch Who Stole Christmas since we got Max at Christmastime many, many years ago.
I suppose it all depends on the individual dogs, but Max has gotten along really good with Biscuit. They often lay together in the sun and I think he prefers to have her company! After we lost Jasper, I think he was lonely. I think puppies are easy for adult dogs to get along with. Sometimes if they want to play too much, you might have to separate them to give the adult dog some rest time, but in my case, Max and Biscuit rarely have to be separated...she leaves Max alone and knows if she does, he'll let her lay with him. If she's too playful, he'll leave. Biscuit has learned to play with her toys instead of Max. It all works out! I hope you'll get to bring the puppy home! Would love to see a picture!!

After you've had your new furbaby a while, a name that is just "right" will come to you. Hope you can figure out how to post pictures!!! And 3 will get along just fine, IMO, especially since #3 is a puppy.

Congrats on your new addition and I too echo that I can't wait for puppy pictures.

Decided to call him Oliver...Ollie for short. Took us 3 days of trying out different names and this one just fit him perfectly. Actually I probably confuse him since I usually call him Ollie, Ollie, Ollie!!! It is so cute to see him gleefully running when I call him. What a sweetie he is. :sillylove: You can see his pics in the Brag Book "Doxiejoy's new Pupper"

:congrat2: On the new addition. My three boys and I all share a standard twin bed. This time of year the extra heaters earn their keep.
