as far as people relinquishing and no one adopting....
I just realized I haven't taken COOPER off of PETFINDER!!!!!

He has been on there for a MONTH and NOT ONE inquiry!!!!
Now that is Crazy.... not that they get adopted out faster... but we usually get more inquiries for pis and dapple.
We have a dapple and 2 pies..... and nothing!!! :(
Oh BTW all our boys were at the balboa park event yesterday (I missed them some how, but saw the pic on the meet-up site)

There are our handsome rescues....
Chance....Bogie.... and Fritz
Anyone remember Fritz?

Do you think the economy has something to do with it? Cooper is the CUTEST little guy and I can't imagine there hasn't been one inquiry! I am thinking maybe the economy AND the fact that people SHOULDN'T give pets for gifts has something to do with it? Hopefully, after the Holidays more adoptions take place.

Wow, I am so surprised that no one asked about Cooper!!
I agree though, I think the economy has affected every aspect of our lives. Lots and lots of adoption :rayz::rayz::rayz::rayz: for the upcoming year!!

Yes, the economy does have to do with it. We're getting in a 7 month old unaltered male this week...he was hit by a car and possibly has a broken leg. The owner can't afford to have x-rays done to find out. How sad is that? If you can't afford that, don't get a dog, please!!

Oh, wow - that is terribly sad! There are SO many in our area who have dogs and can barely afford the world's worst dog food, much less shots or microchipping or any of those other "luxuries." I'm amazed we don't have more rabies in our area!!

It's a nationwide problem. I even read an article in the AP about the same issue in England - the recession got them too.

Our rescue has more animals being turned in than adopted out. Unfortunately there's only so much room - especially when you know that those animals aren't getting new homes anytime soon. In the meantime all the standard vet care and related costs just drain the resources. Few adoption fees are coming in to replenish.

Our local shelter - which generally has a decent adoption rate - has had a full house for more than a month. We're seeing a lot of purebreds (like that gorgeous 35 pound red lh standard I saw a couple weeks ago) and a lot of dogs with collars. Unfortunately there's also been many many litters of pups (in the past the original owners may have been able to find homes but no one can afford to take in new pets).

I can't believe Bogie still hasn't been adopted either.... If I was closer I'd adopt him, he's precious :sillylove:

and we all know that if I lived closer Cooper was at risk of being dognapped :tongue0015: hehe....

Amy I agree with you--if you can't affort medical help for your dogs--don't get one. i bought savings bonds when I first got Gunner. Told hubby we need to get somemore--medical bils for animals can wipe you out.

It's such a sad fact right now that so many dogs are being put into rescues, and of course foster families are also feeling the pinch and many are not able to take more dogs in. Doesn't seem fair or right...

It really makes me mad when people get a puppy & then they do not have time, or do not want to be bothered.

So true. Puppys are cute and then become dogs ( of course most of us here think they are cute no matter what the age - we love them all anyhow) and the people just do not want them anymore. The economy is definately affecting a lot of people and the furkids are the ones that suffer. Have to agree with doximom - makes me mad also. Just can not understand them people. My days are full of Dachshunds and their needs and I would not have it any other way. I would be bored and lonely without my furkids to play with, pet, take care of and cuddle with.

Ok Cat, if hes still on petfinder perhaps I could adopt him and then you would have to surrender him to me in Pa. I just think he is so handsome with those beautiful markings he has.
