How many have been to one before they got their Dachsie ?
( Except for Rescues )
To investigate the breed and learn first hand from many breeders by touching and seeing and watching the tempermant of dogs in a confusing enviorment.
Was wondering if any one saw their breeder showing their dogs or one of their dogs at a show and thats what made them get that lineage ?
Wondering if you saw the dogs parents and other puppies before it was time to pick up the puppy ?
Wondering how many litters a year your Breeder has at their kennels ?

I used to go to the show in KC every year until I moved to FL in 96. It wasn't so much to educate myself as it was to see all the different breeds. Now that we are back in KC I plan on going again.
I didn't know my breeder at the time.
My breeder will stop breeding the females after they have had two litters.
Edit to add that yes with Frankie I was able to see the mother in person and saw pictures of the father. With Sammy I saw pictures of both (flew to TX to get him). However the breeder in TX was highly recommended by the breeder mom and dad got their dogs from 14 years ago. Had she not known them I probably wouldn't have gone just off of pictures.

I have been to and worked at a number of AKC conformation shows.
I have never seen Tucker's breeder in the ring - she doesn't come this far north.
Yes, we drove 13+ hours to see Tucker's parents and siblings along with other parents and another litter before bringing Tucker home. I would never purchase a pup without checking out the breeder and her/his breeding program in person.
The number of litters varies; but, it's usually between 5-7, I believe.

I got my 3 pets before I ever went to a dog show, although I've always been a fan of televised dog shows. I started attending in person about a year ago now and although I didn't get my show pup from one of the breeders I met there, I did find one that I keep my eye on and probably will buy from eventually. Her dogs are absolutely gorgeous, and have very outgoing, happy temperaments. I haven't met a dog of her breeding yet that I haven't loved.

I got my first one Bruiser close by but yes we saw his parents and most of the others I have I have either seen the parents in person or at least a picture.
No I had never been to a show before I got my dogs But if you plan to show you should go and check it out and make some conections before you start so you would have some idea to wnats going on. Most of the time people don't have time to talk until anfter they show then its to late to find out what you need to do when you get there for the first time:wonky:. controled mass confussion

I went to 2 or 3 shows. As a child I had a wonderful English Setter and was still thinking I wanted to have another, but realistically I didn't have the same room for the dog to run. (I'd still love to have the opportunity to have another Setter)
So I went to shows and looked and looked and looked. I'd had a dachshund terrier mix in the past and when I saw wirehair dachshunds I knew that was the breed I wanted. I watched the dachshund ring for several shows. I made contact with the breeder by using the address at the back of the program.
I was able to meet the pup's mother and father at the breeders house. She breeds I think one or 2 litters a year. She's been a source of support and lots of information.

Never got to see Dixie's parents in show although they BOTH were show dogs. But, I did go to the breeder's home and made sure they were good parents. The breeder had the parent's and what was left of D's littermates in the house running around so I could watch them interact.
We both sat on the floor with all of them and watched how they played together. It was awesome and I didn't know which one to choose. So, when Zoey and Dixie both came to me.....I had to choose D because our daughter wanted a red one. So....D actually chose us....we didn't choose her.
Funny thing.....Dixie kept wanting to play a little rough with her daddy...when he had enough....he just put his front paw down on her head HARD and sort of stared her down.....she just stopped and dropped.....like ok...I give! It was very cute. He didn't make a sound....just put her in her place:D That's what daddys do...put the kids in their place:0210:

I started with doxies by dog sitting 1st a mini longhair smooth, then a wire mini blk/tan/ & then a stand smooth out of wire breeding.
I had to wait for 3 years before I got the doxie I wanted. But I was looking for a puppy longhair red. I have friends that belonged to the same all breed dog club that I did. I only showed in Obedience. But I got my Corey that was already a Champion and needed to be placed where other dogs wouldn't pick on her. I did have to agree to 2 littlers and it worked out great. I still see some of her Great Great Great Grandpuppies at the shows. I would love to get one some day. But a puppy is so much work and I am so much older.
But now we have been getting my last dogs through rescue. Including the Chihuahua, what can I say we didn't plan on it at all. But he belongs here he needs some one that can tolerate all his goofy nauty ways. He is a total love.
We didn't plan on having 4 dogs at a time any more it just happened.
BTW I still go to the doxie specialitys shows when our club has them. I love seeing all those little Wienners!:loveshower:
