today was Milo's first day training for his canine good citizen award. he did OK... at first ALL he did was bark bark bark bark bark! but slowly, he calmed down and listened to what I was trying to do. we did a lot of excersizes. first we did a sit stay. we walked 6 steps away, and then released the dog. Milo totally bombed that, because I havent taught him to stay yet. we will be working on that. and we all stood in a line while one person weaved through us. our goal was to keep our dog under control while the dog walked right next to us. Milo did great! with some guidance I think Milo will excel really well when he's done.

I'm sure in given time he will do good.

I can't imagine how my guys would have done without having had obedience first. Lucy passed the test on her first trial. Tess, well, she still needs to repeat and would probably do okay now.

How many classes do you have before the actual test? If you go online to AKC's website, you can download the 10 parts to the test and practice at home. That's what I did and it was very helpful. We didn't have classes geared towards the test; but, Tucker passed on the first try - I think it was because I knew what to expect.:Sun2:
I've helped with 2 CGC tests recently and the most difficult of the 10 parts for most dogs seems to be "being left with a stranger for 3 minutes while the owner is out of sight". If they whine, cry and carry on, it's a fail. I'm sure you know that you have to pass all 10 parts of the test in order to get the CGC.
Keep working on the things that he has trouble with and I'm sure he'll do fine. If I can answer any questions, feel free to PM me. :goodluck:

Good Luck!! The training is the fun part. I was amazed that Bart ever passed, but he did on his second try. He failed miserably the first time when left with a stranger.
