Our 7 mos. old has had some problems teething. When his adult lower canines came in, he had not lost the baby ones yet. The adult teeth pushed the baby ones to the outside and for a while he had four lower canines. Luckily, the baby teeth finally fell out and we thought everything was all right. Yesterday I was looking at his mouth and we have the same problem with his uppers. The adult teeth came in and his baby canines are directly behind the adult teeth. Has anyone else experienced this? Our other dachsund never had this problem, and I am concerned about Jake's poor little mouth.

This is quite a common problem. You might try wiggling the puppy fangs & see if they move at all. If they're in solid, they should probably be removed, but it's no real emergency. If you're going to get your pup neutered, or have something else done under anesthesia, ask them to take them out while he's asleep.

If he's intended as a show dog, you'll want them removed soon, so they don't distort his bite. But if he's just a pet, they can still cause trouble because food will get trapped between them.

Besides, they look funny when he smiles!
