Once it gets in your head that you need another dachsie it's all over.
Couldn't stand waiting could you. lol:D
He is so beautiful. Beckie has the most beautiful pups. Here's the fun. I get to actually see him and pick him up at the picnic. That one really good reason to drive 4.5 hours. Please tell Jake I will make a big fuss over him as well. And he gets to meet Missy.
Yippee. :bounce:
Mark actually said he's excited to see all the dachshunds at the picnic and he's looking forward to it. I thought I would have to really talk him into it or get my mother to come with me.

When do you get him?
I think Elwood if a great name. Jake and Elwood (Woody). Sounds pretty right to me. Your going to have to redo the web site and add Blues Brothers music to it. Very Cool.

I am so happy for you.

What is his registered name? I am assuming the Jake's name comes from his registered "Follow me home Jake" - or did you give it to him?

I can't remember if Beckie names her litters with registered names first.

I will be able to pick the name...

The registered name could come later

So... thoughts for call name are welcome :)

Last night in the chat Tom told us the story of Argus and his loyalty to his master. I think "Jake and Gus" are cool together! (It also makes me think of Gus-Gus the mouse in Disney's Cinderella. My FAVORITE character in the whole movie! Oh no! Now I am going to be singing "Cinderellie, Cinderellie" all day long! )

juliette

I looked on Beckie's web site and couldn't find your little fellow on there. Which litter is he from?

As for call names, have you actually spent any time with him yet or just seen the pics? I tend to find that mine "name themselves". Hijinx especially got her name as we never saw her stand still for 5 seconds on the two occaisions we went to see her - we just new she would be mischief from moment one.

Are you particular to "human" names (Jake, Julie) or does a descritive name work for you?

blazeman
04-30-2003, 10:33 AM
Julie had her name from her first home. I didn't name her :D

Little Man is from Shay's litter. I don't think that there are pics of them on Beckie's site.

As for names... I like things that are easy to call... when being bad (like that will ever happen  ). I had jake for a day or two before he has his name :)

We named our baby rescued squirrel Gus and we still call him even though he's an true blue outside squirrel now Gus Gus and yes he was named after the chubby little fellow in Cinderella.

Funny thing is if I'm correct in my thinking but Bob's little guy is the is the brother of Cinderella aka Cinder which is Beckie's avatar. Now I think that's what Beckie told me. hahahaha

He looks like such a little stinker. He needs a name that will fit that live wire personality. Here are some of my ideas:

Roary, Ranger, Bandit, Scamp, Sly, Jet, Hardy, Skipper, Rascal, Scrappy, Patch, Dash, Chaos, Rogue, Zane, Boomer, Crash, Rowdy, Rebel, Spirit, Pride, Randy, Wiley, Slick, Roman, Ace, Jester

And, of course, Spike and Buster

Hopefully Beckie's not gonna let you get away with not working this little guy. Her dogs are so successful in conformation and field that it seems a shame to waste one. You'd be great, I just know it.

We met several wire owners this weekend and we've been actively talking about getting a wire boy. The glitch is I want my husband to be the one who works him. I've got my hands full of girls and he needs the outlet (hobby). He's a little hesitant that he won't be able to do it. I think he got the bug when he met Beckie's little wire guys at the WDC field trials and then seeing super dogs like Asa and Frodo this weekend, he's hooked. I just hope I can hold him off until this fall/winter. I know it's an old wives tale, but I've always believed that fall puppies are healthier. Plus we'll have the house addition done by then so more room to play. :D

Your little guy is a handsome fella. I just love his markings--that fleck of white on his forehead, his two tone tail and his little white paws! Adorable!
Say, with his pink toes I suspect nail trimming time will be much easier!
Congratulations on your new addition. Your puppy is lucky guy to be joining such a perfect household for a doxie.

What are you leaning toward in a name? If you're torn between several names . . . try posting a poll in DBBPolls. ;)

I mentioned Spike earlier because that is what came to mind when I saw his pic. Petey also comes to mind. :circle:

I don't think I have a lean either way yet! Since he will be white... Casper came to mind... but I don't know if I like that or not. Same with Woody... that was my original thought on a name for Jake's little bro...

Need more suggestions! Please!! :D

I did by my first new thing tonight :D But it is for JAKE! Jake is getting a new BIGGER house (crate). I got the same type he has now (foldable made by Nylabone)... just the next size up. But check this out... I looked onlilne... saw it for $41.99. So I thought... I'll go to the store and pick it up for the same price... WRONG! It was $69.99 at the store!!So... I came back home... went tot he DBB store... and then over to Petsmart.com!

Moral of the story... call ahead before you go to the store... you can save money... on the purchase... and gas :D

I'm a mystery fan and always wanted to use fictional sleuths, Marlow (Phillip), Spade (Sam), Spenser, Sherlock (Holmes), Watson, etc. But lately all of my dogs have come from rescues and have already been named and knew their names so I just kept those. Congrats again. He's a beauty. My Miller is jealous 'cause I've been drooling over his picture.

Kinda looks like Tonto's (Lone Ranger) pony named Paint, too. :)

Some others that come to mind for no reason in particular:

Cutter, Laslo, Nelwin, Carson, Zeke . . . :)

Sure you don't want to start a poll? :D

blazeman
04-30-2003, 10:11 PM
I kinda like Zeke... but that (hopefully) is Lori's boy's name... :D

Maybe I should start a poll... others I saw...

Jesse, Tank, Loki (which is Norse god of mischief, trickery, and thieves), Mufasa (ohh... say it again... well not really... but I had to put in in here), Zack, Bosch (A german spark plug... could call him Bo?)

Any else? I will create a poll tomorrow :)

Hi Bob,

Not sure of the spelling but I had some friends who had a dog named Rafeki(?) which is Swaheli for friend. Thye had been in the Peace Corp in Africa after college and leard Swaheli to work there. Rafeki was a begal cattle dog mix. My Friends were ultra runners and Rafeki would accompany them on 30 mile training runs.

Like I mentioned in the chat room last night Argus is a good name especially when you know the story behind it. See http://www.argusinstitute.colostate.edu/story.htm for the story behind the name.

He could be Sherman the little general ready to march through life.

Tenzing Norgay the sherpa that accompanied Sir Edmund Hillary on the first Everest accent.

Too many endless possibilities

OK so what is Becky's web site? Does she raise and show just mini wires or is she into the other types too? I am so excited for you and Jake! Just think of the tails-LOL you will have to tell now.

He looks like a Ruff and Tumble kinda guy! Rascle and Rogue are good names. If you just looked at the pics you'd think he was a Jack Russell or Parsins or what ever they are calling them now. Terriers. I want to have one too. Pouting!!!!:(

So I ADORE Loki as a name - either that or Puck. Perhaps even Robin (Robin Goodfellow being another name for Puck).

Whatever you name him it has to be dissimilar enough from Jake's name so that calling is easier.

This discussion then led me to my library - tell me this doesn't sound like a dachsie:

"I'll follow you, I'll lead you about a round,
Through bog, through bush, through brake, through brier:
Sometime a horse I'll be, Sometime a hound...."

Hi Bob,

For some rason one more name came to mind this morning. How about Stuka? That's the fabous German WWII sturzkamfflugzeug (divebomber) the Junkers Ju-87. It's best known by the nickname Stuka. I can just see your little guy divebombing of of sofa's, beds, etc onto poor unsuspecting Jake:eek:

Tom,

I kinda like the thought of the name Stuka... but I am trying to imagin myself calling it :D

As for Jake being unsuspecting... I doubt that... Jake's big problem with other dogs... he always wants to play :) Yes... he is still a puppy... but I don't think he knows yet when play should stop. The fun part... when the pup is in the same place Jake is now... and Jake does know when to stop playing :) I can use line... and now you know how YOU were :D

juliette
05-01-2003, 02:33 PM
Well, if you line him up with his spotted litter mates, you could have quite the game of dominos. Looking at his back, he looks like either a two and blank, or double ones.

With Jake's black back being double blanks, and if we assume that this little on is two and blank, then they "fit" together quite nicely!

Anybody for a game of puppy dominos?? Could be a rather alice in wonderland type game!

carpet gator
05-01-2003, 03:51 PM
Domino is cute, and fitting. I really like it shortened to Dom.

But, ya know, to a dachshund, Dom could stand for a lot of things....
DOMineering (Ever met one that wasn't?)
DOMinion (as in, "You and everything you own belongs to me!")
WisDOM (as in, "We both know who the smart one is here!")
InDOMitus- wild, unruly (We've all tried to train them.)

Dom also mean different things in different languages-
Dom in German is Cathedral
Dom in Russian is 'the house'
Dom in Dutch is stupid- Oh, certainly not a dachsie!
Dom in Spanish is the abbreviation of Sunday

Bob, as I was catching up on all these posts, I was reading through the early ones on this thread about your new pie boy. I dug out my favorite list of names -- and then got to the very last post and see you settled on a name. Good choice on Elwood. And what a handsome boy.
By the way, more than likely Elwood and my Willy are distant cousins. Your pie boy will have lines from Dominos kennel in his pedigree. My Willy is a Dominos boy.

Willy's parents are Mozart and Venus de Milo.

Dachshundrsq
05-08-2003, 03:14 PM
Are all littermates out of Pumkin Patch and Fabio. Milo's daddy is Bruno, Willie's daddy is Mozart, making Milo and Willie first cousins. So Woody would be a second cousin to Willie, since he is Milo's son. Venus is out of Cowboy and Pumkin Patch. Melissa bred a 1/2 brother to a 1/2 sister. She was doubling up on the Better lines in hops of improving the conformation. I think Pumkin was the first wire piebald champion. Mozart was second and Bruno was the third. Chaser is a Grandaughter to Leonardo, and the mother of Casper. To my knowledge, Leonardo was never shown. He lives in Canada, I believe. I guess Binky, Bj, Cinder and Rosie are all second cousin's to Willie too.:bounce:
