As you all know, dachsunds are just like kids, and so are totally different from one another. We didn't have a problem like this with Henry and I never expected it. Our vet was a little surprised too. Jakey has a unique way of...uhm..pleasuring himself? He bites his penis in order to masturbate ...as Bart so eloquently pointed out. He really gets into sometimes and I am worried that he might do some damage. He leaves red marks over his lower belly. I have tried bitter tasting sprays....he runs around the house as if I am a horrible mommy...and then sits down and starts all over again. Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this type of thing? He used to bite himself (anywhere) when he was nervous, but now he has pretty much confined his biting to this one behavior. Let me know if anyone has ever heard of this.

Goodness! That IS a different one!

I agree with Amy-medical oppinion first and then a mental one. Some dogs do get into compulsive behaviors.Wo bites his feet when his bladder is full or he's uncomfortable.
