All,

I was considering trying to litter train Baxter and Bailey, since Baxter is just tearing up newspapers and spreading his wet puppy prints all over the wall, but I see that most folks haven't had good success with this. But, I do have two small plastic airline crates that Baxter won't use. I'm wondering about using just the bottom for a makeshift litter pan, but puppy puppy pads in there, while leaving his wire crate open, and the rest of the bathroom floor empty. Do you all think he'll just decide to go on the floor, or might he use the puppy pad? If he goes on the vinyl floor, I think that may do less damage to the floor than the puppy prints are to my wall. Any thoughts on this? If I try this, is one pan OK for both pups, or should they each have one? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Interesting idea. I think it could work, for one puppy per box at least. The key with dachs is that they generally like to pee in the same place. They don't like to find new places. But, with puppy pads, you'll have to be careful he doesn't try to eat them. That will take some supervision and guidance.

I read before someone say they got a dach to use the pads. The key is to put a few down, then remove the top one when it's soiled, but the next one down still has his scent and he will want to go there again. I notice my puppy goes in the same places in the house and our last dach was the same way.

But, you will need to work with him to teach him that's the only place to go. And, make sure he doesn't eat the pad. I have never personally tried those, but I believe it's possible. However, i'm not sure if 2 can share. I've never had 2 at one time, so I don't know if they prefer their own area or would be willing to share.
