We had a pretty rough experience last week. Penny swallowed a string with a bit of fabric attached and developed an intestinal blockage. I did not realize that there was such a thing as a partial blockage - she was still having bowel movements and was eating, although she was vomiting violently. I took her right in to be checked, but it took a few days to get a diagnosis, because the string and fabric didn't show up on the x-ray. Thankfully, Penny's docs figured out what was probably going on, went in and fixed her up, but she was one sick little girl. She's finally home, but she's still sore and stiff and on a special diet until her stomach and intestines have healed fully.
We are extremely careful about what we feed her, about keeping her away from the trash etc. but I wasn't as careful as I should have been about her toys! I only let her play with/destroy the stuffed toys when I was here to supervise her, but she still mangaed to swallow that string! No more stuffed dog toys for us!

Mrs F!

I'm so glad Penny came out of that with only soreness and no more toys. Gee, what a nightmare for both of you. I'll bet you felt really helpless when all the vomiting was going on. Good that you're vets were on the ball. Quick healing from me and Wotan!

Mrs. F, how terrible for you both! It's hard to believe that such a small object could have caused so much trouble! I'm so sorry, and Farfel and Peaches send healing (not heeling) kisses to the poor, sore puppy... http://dachsie.org/ubb/frown.gif
