My husband and I will be traveling up into western Canada in a couple of weeks. It will be a two week trip and we will be bringing Bocce and Lola.
Any suggestions on where to go, what to see, what to do? The dogs are really good in the car, so that is the easy part. The harder part is what do we do with them when we go to eat, etc... or if we want to go kayaking.
I am looking forward to this trip because I have never been in to Canada before. I have a book on Canada and have been reading up on where to go, but the books never tell you the hidden treasures!!!

What part of western Canada are you visiting?? I can probably suggest a few places worth seeing in my neck of the woods!!
Hope you have an excellent trip here! I feel very glad to have some of the beautiful wilderness we have up here at my fingertips-- its definitely a privilege

I love Canada, we go up every yr., this yr. will probably be going right after school starts back up, maybe Sept. My d. has a lake house on Lake Ontario, I love A. Bay, Alexandria Bay, it is so pretty there in the summer. I have never toured Bolt castle but keep saying I will one of these days. That is quite a tourist attraction. This is all near the Thousand Islands, it is really beautiful there. The only other place I have been is Niagra Falls which is very nice too. We visited some old fort up there, cant remember what it was called now. There are alot of things to look at there too, the gardens the falls, alot of pretty country.

Western Canada- hmmm- perhaps some folks who may be into sled-dogging.Well i guess that's really North, huh/
Me-give me Montreal. Terrific transportation, lots to do, -I can even read French, though I cannot speak it well enough to make reasonabe sense to the listener! But virtually everyone is bilingual seems to me. And dumb me- I did not renew my passport. Such an easy trip for us.

We are leaving next week and are going to BC. Vancouver, Vancouver Island. Possibly into Southern Alberta. Basically staying on the west coast, southern areas. We will be driving with the weins. :sillylove: Believe it or not, I have never been into Canada, so I am really looking forward to this trip. :bouncy1: I have been all over the U.S. and down into Mexico. So, now I get into the northern part of North America!!! :stars: Everyone I talk to raves!!! I am into the art and the scenery. My husband is a fisherman and a hunter. So, I am sure we will be fishing.... I don't know about hunting though, not my thing. BUT you can bet, I will be looking for artsy stuff!!!
SUGGESTIONS????????????

If you're going to be on Vancouver Island, then Victoria is worth a visit. I've been there several times and enjoyed it. I especially liked spending a day at Buchart Gardens (http://www.butchartgardens.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1).
I should have known Wikipedia has a page about Buchart Gardens. Wiki has everything

No suggestions, but make sure your passport is in order. Have to have it now to enter Canada.

If you are going to Alberta you may want to consider the Banff park- gorgeous there.

Our passports are good AND I got health certificates for the puppers, so they are clear also. I have heard that Banff is a must see. I also heard there are some nice little spots on Vancouver Island.

Maybe check out some doggie day cares for the days that you want to do things.
Too bad Petcetera is closing, they run a doggie day care.
Enjoy your trip, leave lots of room on your camera for pictures.

I live in Seattle and we buzz up to BC quite a bit. I love Harrison Hotsprings, I know it's summer and all but it is beautiful and the official Harrison Hotsprings Hotel has dog friendly cabins.
If you are planning on visiting Victoria take the time to check ou the Sook Harbor area I might not be spelling it right). It is only a short drive from Victori and it is breathtaking! There is a dog friendly Cabin/Hotel that is on the coast line there which is also just beautiful. Also, Matisse is a great little french restaurant there.
If you are going to Victoria via the WA state peninsula be sure to stop by Sequim (pronounced Squim)- the lavendar is in bloom and it is also breathtaking. Good antiquing in Port Townsend where the ferry docks for Victoria.
On your way to Vancouver stop by White Rock and have a delicious Greek meal on the beach or English style fish-n-chips. Vancouver has the best food and if you like sushi you are in luck! Great sushi for a great price go to Sabushen (I think it is spelled like that). The BC Lions eat there, all you can eat for around $24 Canadian. Good Greek, Itallian, Chinese (you must go to Richmond for the best chinese food) and NW Fusion food. We always stay at the Blue Horizon in Vancouver but I am not sure it if it dog friendly. Crepe Britton is also an excellent restaurant and it is just around the corner from the Blue Horizon.
Going to Vancouver on I-5 you will pass thru Bellingham and on Saturday the have a wonderful farmers market with great food stands and crafts. It is a really nice little college town.
Anyway, I am sure I have bored you to tears by now, I will try to find the name of the B&B in Souk Harbor that is dog friendly and PM you, just let me know if you are planning on going there
Oh ya, dont forget to have all your dogs papers in order as well or they wont let them into the country.

Point No Point Resort sounds fantastic!!! Just what I need for vacation!!! It's funny you should mention Port Townsend. My aunt lived there for many years. I remember visiting there.... I have relatives all over Washington, and vacationed up there as a kid, but NEVER went into Canada!!!
GREAT information, Thank You!!!!

I assume you're taking the ferry over to Vancouver Island? If so, take some hours and enjoy Horseshoe Bay where the ferry departs. A good friend lived there for a number of years and it's just delightful.

We had a wonderful trip. Stayed overnight in Victoria. Then went up to Tofino and Ucluelet. Then we drove over to Whistler, Camball River, Gold River. We saw some fantastic, amazing country. Wide open, gigantic country. The dogs were fantastic to travel with. They basically slept in the car. The when we got to our destination, we took them out for a good run. No accidents in any room. I was very impressed!!!! We would wait until it got dark to eat, then they could wait in the car. Or if we ate somewhere there was a patio, they would go with us. Now, we will go back again next year, and start where we left off and work our way east. Good Trip.

Glad you had a great time. Silly me, just thought of it now. With a doggie stroller (can zip it up) they are allowed more places too.
