Buddha's Mom

I just adopted a wonderful Dachshund mix from the shelter! He was at an adoption event I was helping with yesterday. I fell in love! I was wanting a new dog, but my criteria was high. Basically, I wanted a sweet, social, fun dog who was housebroken, not a cat chaser, good off leash, small, and preferably a dachshund mix or similar. Yeah, like I said, I was going to be picky! Then I met this guy, wow, he's everything, and gorgeous to boot. I let him go all day, to give public first shot. No one adopted him (sunday, and an adoption fair at a feed store, didn't have the biggest turnout). They needed fosters for him and his kennel mate anyway, and I needed to see if my kelpie would accept him. She doesn't LOVE other dogs, but has never had a problem with my older dachshund. At the end of the week there is going to be a big out-of-town event. Both were slated to go (they kind of hoard the little dogs away in foster homes for these events because they can get more into the shelter vans).
I took him home, the Kelpie (leah is her name), doesn't hate him, and that's all I can ask :). His name was Dexter but he came in as a stray, so the shelter named him. He is now Harley. He's black and tan, and only about 7 months, maybe a little older (I think he's closer to a year). Sweet sweet dog, and while he's social, he has definitely bonded to me already. My older dachshund (Buddha) did that too, I adopted her at between 8 and 10 years old, and from the start, I am very much her person.
He's good off leash, and housebroken to boot. Has some separation anxiety, but I can work with that.
I was fostering him and his kennel mate, Meyer (now mimi) until the adoption event. But I went to the shelter today and adopted Harley.
Mimi is a sweetie, a little chihuahua/dachshund mix. About three. She and Harley cuddle. :sillylove:
