Mira is walking alot better now, and seems to be settling in quite well now that she is feeling better and healthier. I need to get some more video of her so everyone can see how well she is doing too. She is gaining weight really well. Her ribs are all filled in now and the majority of her spine is no longer protruding. Her feet are totally healed up and even growing fur back around the outside of where they were wounded. I don't know if the middle where the sores were so deep will grow fur or not but I think they might. She is doing just great.
I have been having a bit of aggression problems with her but I am pretty sure it is just her testing boundaries and trying to establish a place in the pack, now that she is feeling spunky again. She totally hates her front claws being clipped and even bit me when I tried to clip her the first time. I just make a gauze muzzle and lay her on her side and lay my arm along her body and clip her nails anyhow. She growls and snarls the whole time but we get the job done and then she gets a peice of hot dog when we are done even though she growled. I had to do them again night before last and she started showing her teeth again so I muzzled her and proceeded to clip her claws. She will learn quickly that she can't mess with me or bully me around. Also 2 nights ago she attacked Lexie. Now Lexie is my calm motherly gal and is so nice and easygoing that she totally freaked when Mira attacked her. It was getting on to dinner time and I have switched my gang over from free feeding to meal times again so that the ones that need extra supplements can get them. I crate Lexie, Beatrix, Pippin, and Lacey in my office to eat and Mira goes in her crate in the front room, and Dexter eats in my chair. Sarah and Logan eat in the kitchen. This way no one can gobble their food and then swipe someone elses. Anyhow the food was still in the kitchen and I was in my office crating the girls and got Bea, Pip and Lacey in crates and as Lexie was going in Mira lunged at her and grabbed her face. Poor Lexie was so taken aback that she was screaming. It didn't draw blood and I immediately pryed her jaws open and let Lexie go and then rolled Mira and pinned her (I know many don't agree with this technique but I feel it depends on the dog and it's attitude and in Mira's case it was the only option and it seems to have made the proper impression with no ill effects) while she was pinned I brought Lexie over and put her paw on Mira's chest while she was down to enforce to Mira that Lexie is dominate over her in this house. Ever since then she has been very deferential to Lexie and seems to accept that Lex is the boss according the the doxies and to me. In spite of these few minor blowups she is really a sweetie though and loves attention and snuggles. She also gets along really well with all my doxies.
I think she has a crush on Dexter, it is so funny whenever she is on the floor she totally persues him, she will rub against him and lay on her back and be submissive to him. Sometimes she drives him bonkers so he will jump up on the couch or a chair and she will sit on the floor looking up at him barking. It is kind of cute really.
Her and Lacey are best buds. They are together nearly all the time. If Mira is laying next to me in my chair, Lacey is laying on top of her. If Mira is on the floor, Lacey is never more than 2 or 3 feet away from her and when they are outside it is amazing. Lacey stays within the range of touch by Mira's nose. I think Mira's vision is worse than I thought because it seems as if Lacey guides her around the yard. I think she can see large things as shadows maybe but the smaller stuff like out in the yard she has a problem with.
All in all she is doing awesome and fitting in just great. We love her to peices and she is a constant delight to us.
Once again I want to thank everyone for all they have done for us. It really touches my heart to watch her blossom and her joy in the little things that my dogs do that I have always just kind of taken for granted that dogs will do. It is like she is discovering alot of those kinds of things for the first time and her joy in it often brings tears to my eyes.
