kongs

Are kongs really good toys for dachsunds? I was thinking of buying one. I just wanna know how other dachsunds do with them.:D

Mine will only play with a Kong if it is stuffed with food. Once the food is gone, so is the interest.

I know other folks love them as they are practically indestructable - even for one of our chewy devils!

a couple of them before and they dont really too much care for them. I dont know if its the hard rubber or what.

I bought one of the black Kongs -- they're supposedly for more aggressive chewers. Anyway, Bonnie was able to bite pieces of it off. Of course, she eats anything and everything....so I took it away from her. It has held up really well for our outside dogs. Bonn liked playing with it though....it bounces around wildly if you throw it, plus you can put treats inside it.

Really the only thing I've found that Bonnie can't destroy is the Fetch & Flash ball. It's super hard and big enough that she can't get her mouth around it. One other chew bone she doesn't destroy is the Nylabone Galileo Bone. She's slowly wearing away at it, but it's holding up extremely well. I only give it to her as a treat....maybe 30 minutes a day?

You'd think a little mini dachshund wouldn't be such a tough chewer?!?!? :sarcastic

I have never had a dog to destroy their toys like Kamper does.. No stuffing kind for him its gone it a few seconds flat:afraid:

I got Missy the little red kong a few weeks ago. She works it over daily treat inside or no treat inside. She for some reason does not shred her toys. All her toys are all still in good shape. She throw that little kong around and has a blast with it. I got the next size up for Zeke we'll see how he likes it.

She does however shred any paper and shoes if accessible.:sarcastic

FolkieOkie, I just bought López a black Kong yesterday. I haven't given it to him yet because it's for his birthday (22nd June), but I hope he won't be able to chew pieces off.:afraid: I was so happy that I finally found one. I also got him a biggish very hard ball that LOOKS tough, but with these Dachsies you never know.
The Nylabone I got him last week lasted around 30 seconds.
Oh, and the only reason that the previous (brand new) Kong didn't last was because López chucked it off the balcony and we didn't realise in time, oh well, probably made some passing dog happy.

I bought two of the red kongs for mine amd they love them with a treat in side..with out the treat they lose interest. Misty once in a while will roll them around the place and jump on the kongs to get Magic going.

The only toys I can keep are the hard rubber or some hard vinyl. They destoy stuffed animals or the latex toys:eek:these last maybe 30 seconds. Magic perfers tennis balls...no other balls any type will keep her interest. Misty is not as fussy..but she perfers the hard rubber with the bell inside.

Nylabones at least last..but both like to put them all over the place..ever sit on it?:yikes: That's a common occurance around here! Maybe I will put the nylabone inside the kongs!
