I have always refrigerated pumpkin pie. I don't really like it cold though. I have to warm it in the microwave for a few seconds before I eat it.

I don't really want to refrigerate if I don't have to. I bought one at the local grocery today because it looked so good and our weather is getting colder and it was rainy today and just seemed like pumpkin pie weather.

DO I HAVE TO REFRIGERATE THE PUMPKIN PIE???? I imagine it will be eaten within 2-3 days by the family.

BTW....I thought you had to refrigerate it but yet the grocery did not have it refrigerated. It was out with the other pies. There is nothing on the label about refrigerate after opening.

I think it all depends. Homemade pumpkin pies, as far as I know, must be refrigerated b/c of the ingredients.

Some from the store b/c they have preservatives, or are made differently, etc. and are usually already just sitting out.

I feel that same.... cold pumpkin pie is just not as delish :/ Now I'd really love a slice :)

Well, to be safe I stuck it in the fridge. That makes sense why the groceries leave them out!!!
Thanks:hug2:

I was going to suggest that you just eat the whole pie tonight - no worries that way.

Well, now that I have finished dinner (Ravioli with Pesto sauce), I'm going to get a piece with whipped cream right NOW. :hubbahubba:

Cathy throw a piece of pie my way............hmmmmmmm sounds so good. Already got coolwhip! I was thinking the same thing, with all those preservitives added it probably could be stored at room temp, but for how long. To be safe I would just refrigerate also. Around here would be gone so fast wouldnt matter where it was kept.

You reminded me about pumpkin pie a long time ago when I was first married. I put a slice on a plate for after supper. Hubby said, I'll have it later. Then later again, and it stayed out over night. The next day or so, he finally went to eat it, and it was something like kerosene going in his mouth. :faint:

Thank goodness I said SPIT IT OUT!!! Wash your mouth out!!

So that's how I discovered that pumpkin pie is a custard, and they NEED to be refrigerated!! Pop it in the microwave for a few seconds, much better.

Thanks for torturing us with the pumpkin pie thing PLUS whipping cream!! You are such a rascal.

You made me hungry for pumpkin pie so I went out to buy some can pumpkin, I went to 6 stores and NO can pumpkin, no way...I called the company and they said they are now harvesting their pumpkins.
I didn't know can pumpkin was seasonal..
Now I have to 2-3 weeks before it's out in the stores again!!!!:what:

We do have canned pumpkin on the shelves here but not the canned pumpkin pie MIX. Can you buy a frozen pie even though it doesn't taste as good as homeade?
The one I bought was okay....not as good as my homeade though. I'll wait to make those at Thanksgiving.

I always refirgerate mine when i make it because of the dairy in it. I warm it up also. We are able to get canned pumpkin both pure and with seasoning anytime here in Columbus. I use the pure pumpkin as I like to season my own. I have made it with fresh cooked pumpkin before and its wonderful. Lot more work though!!

I understand there was a pumpkin shortage, due to weather, I suppose. Most stores did not have pumpkin. The Publix I worked at doesn't even have the usual space for it right now. SO....knowing this, I went looking for it in all the stores I went to. FInally found the huge cans of Libby's at Walmart, over in the pie filling section. And there were only 6 cans on the shelf....I bought 3 of them, because we WILL have pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Pumpkin pie sounds so good now but I guess I will have to content myself with cake and ice cream around here. Wayne's bday is tomorrow and all the kids are coming over this afternoon for cake and ice cream for him. I am still up in the air about what kind of cake. I am thinking neapolitan for ice cream since that one pleases everyone and Waynes favorite flavor is strawberry.
