We have a 2 year old mini. Today during a walk at a local state park he got really shaky on his legs. After we laid him down to rest his right leg was twitching. This has happened on a few other occasions, usually during hot weather. Is he just getting overworked quickly, or could there be an underlying problem? Sometimes he gets lots of exercise on hot days and is very energetic without any signs of this. If anyone has any thoughts, we would appreciate to hear from you.
Thanks-

If I were in your shoes I would definitiely give the vet a call and get your pup in to be checked out. As you are aware, dachsies are so prone to disc problems. Perhaps lots of rest right now would be better than taxing his/her back with walks. Your vet would be better able to tell you then I of course, that's my thought. Hope things turn out well.
I have 2 Mini WH Dachsies . . . they have both had back difficulties and my advice is go to the Vet ASAP. If your vet is not familiar with the back predispositions of Dachsies, go to a specialty clinic that does. Early detection (if that's what it is) can save alot of grief or sorrow.
The symptom you mention sounds like one that our youngest had . . . turned out to be a Spinal Infarction which was easily treatable by crating for 4-5 weeks + medication. Our oldest had IDD which required surgery . . . and looking back, she had pre-event symptoms, also. Both have fully recovered as the result of prompt diagnosis & treatment.
It also could be something very simple, but better safe than real sorry.
Please let us know what happens.
