Ms Molly came into my family's life on September 22nd 2009 via a Craigslist ad. Her previous owner had posted needing to rehome her and I being a sucker for an animal in need ( I already have 5 cats.. ha ) I e-mailed about her thinking oh she will already have found a home. The previous owner was requesting a rehome fee but decided to just give her away for free. (I did a little research about what they go for an fainted when I realized my million dollar Molly came to me for free wow!) A phone call and a first time meeting happened and away Molly came to live with us. I was shocked that her previous owner did not even want to view my home to see how Molly would be living. :sorry:

It's been an interesting first few weeks but I'm learning as much as I can about her. I believe her life has been rather unstable and I am determined to make it a better world for her. She now has a nice side yard to run in which she seems to be unsure about so I have been slowly leaving her about a few minutes longer each day to get her used to the idea that it's ok to go run and play without a lead on, she now has her own crate to adjust to our home and sleep in at night .. not sure if a crate is a bad thing but she seems to find comfort in having her special place to curl up in when she seems a little stressed. She seems to have issues with walking on a harness which leads me to believe that she wasn't walked that much but she is making great progress and is now becoming excited when she sees me bringing the harness to her. Yep Molly it's go for a walk time. :bouncy1:

I was told she was a purebred and about 3-4 years old. To me she looks much younger than that but I'm sure I will find out more when we have our first vet visit.

Anyhoo that's really all I know about her other than she's a sweetheart and loves to cuddle and is excellent with my two little girls. Oh and my big strong manly man of a husband is a pure puss when he's holding her. SO CUTE!!!

Men do tend to have a fondness for the long dogs! I know my boyfriend turns to mush around mine.

A doxie does the best with a routine. They like to know what to expect. Also positive training methods are best with doxies. You have to make them understand why it is in their best interest to do what you are asking them to do. Bullying and physical punnishments are the worst thing you can do to them.

Good luck! And be prepared if you are a weiner lover at heart, there will be no other dog that compares!

no overlinking here. Thank you so much I will check the links out as time allows. I've got an obnoxious 1.5 yo today so I'm back n forth at the computer. I surf and fold laundry at the same time. :) It works for me. LOL

A crate is a VERY good thing for her to get used to! You never know when she will HAVE to be crated, and then just go beserk in the crate if she's not used to one! I highly recommend you have her vet-checked ASAP; if she is HW+ or has other issues that need to be addressed, she needs treatment as soon as possible! I'm glad she's getting used to walking - that's very good for US as well as our furkids! Please let us know what the vet says - I took my two newly-adopted furkids (back when I first got them) to my vet within a couple of days, even though I adopted them from a rescue and knew they were healthy, because I wanted my vet to see them when they were healthy so she'd know what they looked like in good condition. Then if they became ill, she'd know just by looking at them that they didn't feel well. A thorough physical along with bloodwork, especially a heartworm check, is mandatory if you're adopting a dog without vet records! Best of luck! I know once you've owned a dachsie, you will become a dachsie-holic and never be without at least one! People who "dispose" of dogs thru Craigs List and ads like that usually don't really care who adopts their pets - they just want to get rid of them. I avoid looking at that section of Craigs List - it makes me too sad. Oh - and be very sure to watch your toddler every second if you allow him/her around Molly. It only takes one fall over a dog's back to rupture their disk, and kids that small have no clue how to respect a dog and its privacy.

When I first saw Bailey I thought he was 7-8months old. The rescue said he was 2yrs old, his paperwork from his previous owner's vet said he was 4yrs old. My vet agreed that he was 4yrs old.

Here's a couple pics of him when I first adopted him:

I hope everything goes well at the vet and she is a healthy girl.

Bless you for taking her in and having the patience and consistency to help her - I'm sure she will adapt well to your routine. I just hate seeing people giving dogs away on free ad sites - it's so easy for them to end up in a bad situation with people who aren't the loving adopters that they claim to be. I'm so glad that she found a good home with you. Give her a big :kiss2::kiss2: for me!
