BeauBuddy and I were talking food and I was telling her about a cake recipe and icing that is my favorite. IF you like deep dark chocolate cake and icing you might want to try this one. It is SUPER easy and always turns out great! After talking about it with her....I couldn't help but bake one today!!!

Recipe:
Cake is:
1 Devils Food Cake Mix
4 eggs
6 oz semisweet choc chips
1 sm pkg choc inst choc pudding
1 cup sour cream
1 cup water
1/4 cup cooking oil
Mix all together and spread in greased floured cake pan(s)
3 pans= 25 mins @ 350* OR 1 Bundt pan @350* for 1 hour
Let cool in pans for 10 minutes before removing.
Let cool completely before icing cake.

DARK Icing is:
Bring 3/4 cup whipping cream to a boil with 2 tsp. honey,2TBPS real butter, and 1TBSP granulated sugar (only boil until sugar is dissolved). Place 1&1/2 cups QUALITY semi-sweet choc chips in a medium bowl, pour cream mixture over choc chips and let stand 5 minutes. Stir until smooth. Let stand 15 minutes or until it reaches desired consistency. It will thicken as it cools. POUR over cake layers and cake as icing.
This icing is really called "ganache" but I use it to frost the entire cake.
The lighter chocolate that I decorate with is just the left over dark icing with powdered sugar added to it.

You might want to double this icing recipe as it is BARELY enough to do a 3 layer cake. It would be enough though for the bundt cake.

Hey Irma! Hope you had a good b-day!
Nope...it didn't come from a bakery. I baked it today. IF I had lots of money and confidence.....I would love to own my own bakery/restaurant. I've always thought about it. My favorite shows are all the "chef" shows.:happy030:

HANG ON! I'm comin' right over!! :bouncy1:

First of all, this cake, the presentation, the photo, should be on the cover of Martha Stewart's magazine. Move over Martha, there's a new kid in town!

It's the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, and I'm going to be eating too much food like the rest of my neighbors. I've got pumpkin pie in the fridge because of DixieDoodle's other thread. Now I'm going to have to pour chocolate chips right out of the bag into my mouth. Sigh. Looks like I'll be eating green beans like every one else on here the rest of the winter.

Man, she's got some good food at her place.

I have to agree the way Cathy presented the cake... should be on a baking magazine...

HA!!!! THANK the Lord that the camera wasn't facing the other way!!! I've still got chocolate spots all over my WHITE sweatshirt from the mixer, my hair is FLAT because of the rain, my stomach is out there because of the food I've been making lately, AND...now I have that fresh fried fish smell added to me because I just made fried Haddock for dinner:faint:!!! I will have to shower BEFORE bed tonight:bath::laughitup:! At least the cake looks and tastes good:Sun2:

Thanks ALL for the compliments!

:bouncy1::bouncy1: Ohhhh yumm!! Sadly I can't do chocolate (migraines) but I've passed this recipe on to a friend who is a serious chocoholic. I agree, the photos of this cake could certainly be front cover material!!!

You did a beautiful job on that cake!I have a recipe that's very similar, but I make 2 cakes, split them and fill 2 with vanilla pastry cream and the center layer is cherry pie filling(mostly cherries and not much "sauce") and frost with the ganache.I have a friend who bakes and sells her cobblers, pies, cakes, etc. out of her kitchen and she does quite well.

You might want to double this icing recipe as it is BARELY enough to do a 3 layer cake. It would be enough though for the bundt cake.

I like to smear a good fruity wildberry jam between 2 layers of choc cake. (My fave is E.D. Smith Triple Fruits Wildberry) If the icing is barely enough to do the 3 layers, maybe a single layer of wildberry would be a nice addition and stretch the icing farther to allow for a bit of decorating on top.

Great idea Penny!!! I also forgot to mention...I actually like this cake better the 2nd or 3rd day. It seems to get a little more dense and the icing gets more like a fudge!

Cathy
You should put that picture on some of those online cooking sites like Allrecipes or Recipezaar. It's a GREAT picture and the presentation is perfect!

I am going to make that next time we have company. It looks wonderful! I LOVE chocolate, and crave it so much.

Besides the weather is cold now, I need start getting a little more "fat" stored in me so I dont' get cold ya know,

Awesome pic!!! Great Recipe! Thanks so much for sharing!!!!
