Well, I think I may have seen a touch of the “uncontrollable” Oliver this weekend.
I had picked up a dog, Sparky from an abusive situation (you may have received my emailed plea for help, he’s safe, yahoo!) on Friday night. He was a “cujo” in the crate, growling, snarling, snapping but I took a deep breath and got him in the house and then with a towel ready (to throw over him if he got too crazy) I opened the crate, he bounced out of the crate, sniffed the kids and then came to me for belly rubs and kisses. He was a sweetie pie, just petrified because his life has been the confines of an apartment for so long (never going outside).
Well, Oliver would not stop with him. Bouncing in his face (Come play with ME!!). Then he began to assume the position and began humping him! I was able to get him to stop with just my voice but he would not give “Sparky” a moment’s rest. And Sparky took it without an issue.
Then the next day, he was a good boy but Oliver was a dog possessed, he wanted to PLAY!! I found myself saying, NO Oliver, STOP Oliver, all day long! And I went to shower “Sparky” climbed in with me! And after getting “Sparky” out of the shower I glanced out and there is Oliver making the rug his “girlfriend” and he wouldn’t stop. I cupped my hands with water and threw it on him and he still kept going.
Finally a couple came to pick up “Sparky”. He went cujo on them at first so I asked them to take him for a walk and when he came back, he was a different dog, sweet, loving, perfect boy. So he’s off to his forever home. And Oliver returned to being the perfect gentleman except for stealing Ken’s pizza crust.
Sunday I took Oliver over to my parents’ house with me (my dad is in love with him because he reminds him of my departed Syd) and he did great. We even left for dinner and he was an angel in their house, no accidents, nothing torn up or stolen.
I got back and you would have thought Dex and Ollie were long lost brothers. They were so glad to see each other again, you would have thought they were apart for days! It made me realize, yes, this is exactly where he belongs with calm dogs that don’t drive him to “misbehave”.
And then this morning Dex had to go outside at around 4 am. So I get up take him out and take Ollie out too. (Ollie sleeps in a crate because his former foster mom says he would growl if you moved him in the “big bed”). So since I still had 2 hours to sleep I thought I’d him sleep with Dex and me in bed. Well, let me tell you, he’s a snuggler. He shared my pillow and snuggled his face in the crook of my neck, breathing in my ear the whole time. It was really, really cute.
I can definitely say the “energy” of the dogs really affect Oliver. He can be the sweetest dog but can be a little devil too. He’s a little comedian and loves to make you laugh. I can see if he was the “little devil” in someone else’s home all the time (like when Sparky was here) how frustrated and frazzled they would become. Luckily that’s not how he normally is in my home.
I’m so glad Ken and I decided to keep my Ollie Bear. He has issues but they’re nothing I’m not equipped to handle. And in the wrong household, well, he would be a terror! He’s even gotten better with the barking. Yahoo!
