We've rented a condo in Pompano Beach for the month of Feb; we will be travelling from Ottawa. We plan to take 2 1/2 days to travel, hopefully will not have difficulty at the boarder and finding pet friendly hotels. I've organized a binder with his registration papers, records of inoculations and will be sure to have enough of his Origen food, so as not to have to change his food. We will ensure he has bottled water on hand at all times. He will likely ride on my wife's lap but we will also have his crate.
Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Sunshine State (sooner or later). Yes it was a bright sunny day but for Floridians... BRRR! :)
Some good stops for him to do his biz is all he should need :) When I moved down from Ohio we had some meds to help Jake and Woody relax. They are a bit hyper in the car and an 18 hour drive (done in two days) would have been too much for mom and dad :)
Mooshie does OK in the car right? My one worry would be car sickness unless you know he does great :)
As far as food... you can find Orijen at many pet stores around Central Florida and I assume that South Florida would be the same. I'm not talking about Petco or Petsmart type stores, but places like where we get out food "Louises Pet Connection". Named after the owners rescued rottie Louise :)
Hopefully it will warm up for you before you come down ;) Although our current 50 degree highs are probably warmer than home :)

Make sure you have a harness so he doesn't slip out of his collar.

I saw something a few months ago somewhere on DBB about taping contact information and dog description to the crate itself, along with a secondary contact and something about authorizing vet care in case of emergency or taking the dog to boarding place and you would pay for it. (ie if there is a car accident). Also, having a current photo of him with name/contact info on it just in case he slips his leash. Hopefully you folks will all have a safe and wonderful vacation. You may also consider having a few towels/blankie in the car. You can also use them as a crate cover at your destination. Sometimes a dog will like to curl up under a blanket for a change in position. When we travel, I often will leave the leash on the dogs to make it easier when we stop for potty breaks...since they can't wait to get out of the car as soon as we stop!

Sending you to websites, for pet friendly places, since I din't see what area I just sent you all of FL, One is for VRBO (vacation rentals by owner), I've used them several times, for different states, and never had a problem. If you go through the FL listings, on the right side, the ones with the paw print are pet friendly.
The 2nd website is LaQuinta, and most of their hotels are pet friendly, I have also had good luck with them.
I will be staying at a Cleveland LaQuinta in July for the Dachshund Picnic, because the place we stayed last time I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
We are also using VRBO for a few days stay in Southern Ohio, where we've never been before.
Have a great trip!!! Enjoy the sunshine and hopefully it will warm up before you get there.

Thank you for all your responses and good vacation rays, appreciate it. Wouldn`t it be fun to be able to offer to pick-up bring everyone with us, who would like to come along; we`d have a great party.
I appreciate the tips about bringing Mooshie`s harness, blankets & towels and pet friendly sites. We are fortunate that Mooshie travels well, no car sickness to date. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to a few nights hotel and adjusting to the condo living. The rental agent has told me that there is a dog park close by and there are some great walking trails that welcome dogs. I do plan to take a lot of pics which I`ll post when we get back
Hope to find a speedo & sunglasses for the Mosh, will make for great pics LOL

I assume he is chipped, but if not, do that before you leave. The way things are going now, you might want to throw a sweater in for him. It was a balmy 34 out this morning....WARMEST DAY in weeks. BRRRRRRR.

Funny Story - I'm moving back to Pompano with my Jackie. We're leaving between the last weekend of this month and March 1st. I'm going to go over the responses you have because I need advice on this myself. Jackie HATES cars. After 15 minutes she's hyperventilating and freaking out. I don't know how I'm going to do a drive from MA to FL with her. Also she hates crates - Just my luck

Jackie, perhaps a raised seat such a a lookout seat might be better for her if she gets carsick. We have the 1/2 perch and now it's too small for all 3, so I'm buying another 1/2 perch before we go to Ohio, for the 3rd dog. Chanel will enjoy having her own seat away from the boys. None of mine get carsick, but they do enjoy looking out the window.
Good luck on the move, I'm in MA too, right on the coast.

Here are some pics of Mooshie's first Florida vacation. We had a really great time inspite of the cooler temperatures.
