Hello everyone,
It has been along time since I posted on the board, I hope you are all ok and that your dachsies are all well and happy.
I hate to only post when something sad has happend, but I wanted to let people know and remember Poppy. She was only four weeks old when she died, yesterday. I just needed to record her life, although short, I want people to know that she was here, and that she has left some memories behind.
And of course this is the ideal place, you are all so kind and caring, I couldnt think of a better place for people to send out some thoughts for her.
Poppy was a shaded red mini smooth, and so pretty, she was such a poppet, we called her Poppy, as red as the flower and as fragile. Poppy had a sister and a brother in her litter, all seemed well. Until yesterday I did not know that anything was wrong. I fed the puppies breakfast and lunch all was ok, until the middle of the afternoon, when I noticed that her breathing was faster than normal. I watched her for an hour, then phoned vet when she didnt return to normal. The vet asked to see her straight away.
They took some xrays of her chest and diagnosed aspiration pneumonia. I left her in the vets to have a trachial wash, IV antibiotics and bronchial dilators. At 9pm the vets called me back, she was fading fast. But thankfully I arrived at the vets in time to say goodbye, I cuddled her and told her of how she was going to the bridge where old friends would be there to take her over, and there would be no more pain, she would be so free.
She died in my arms at 9-45, and I was so grateful her pain was over. To watch a puppy gasping for every breath and crying in pain is heart breaking. I had an autopsy done, she had an aortic arch, so we could not have saved her.
I brought her home wrapped in her winnie the pooh blanket and buried her in the paddock with Hattie, our st bernard, Hattie will watch over her for me.
God bless Poppy, we all loved you.
I just wished you could have stayed longer.
Love to all those dacchsies out there, Dawn and dachsies.

to my eyes:crying: I'm so sorry to hear of your little one's passing. She was so young, but had felt love like any other dachsie. You gave her the best shot you could. She's now romping and playing, basking under the sun with all the other dachsies at Rainbow Bridge.

Hugs to you!

Sometimes nature just seems unkind when such a little one has a problem that we can't do any thing to resolve. I'll let my little mill mother angle Aggie know there is another little one she should watch out for and help take care of. When Aggie had her last litter of pups while in foster care at Hearts United they reported she was a very good mother. Any time Aggie would hear a baby human or pup cry she would get very upset so I suspect she has quite a collection surrounding her at the bridge waiting for their people to come claim them or to pass with us when the time comes if they had no one that cared for them.

It only takes a minute for these little creatures to find a spot in our hearts. No matter how young or old, it is always hard loosing a loved one. You did what you could... and She knows that! She will be looking over you from the Bridge... with Hattie looking on.

I am sorry that you did not have a longer time on earth with Poppy, but thank you for doing all you could. What a short, sweet life she led - and now she will get to run and play with our other dachsie furkids who are there! I wll likewise send messages to Johanna, Lucy, Fritz, and Heidi to watch out for her there. Julia B.

Poppy sounds like such a little  angel her on earth. So sad to hear about your loosing her so young. We will be thinking about her and send you some pleasent memories of her. I truely believe that our little darlings are up there just smilling down and wishing they could take away our pain. Then they would explain just how wonderfull it is at the Rainbow Bridge.

Oh Dawn I am so sorry about little Poppy. I don't know what to say except I am so sorry. Of course she is with Hattie now and I know that sweet Hattie will take care of her. I'm sure that Fritzi and my Mandu Sue (my little red angel) will take care of her too. Little Poppy has a lot of angels from this board up there looking after her. I will email later

Hi Dawn,

It is so sad and heartbreaking, whether we lose a furkid early on (without having had a full life) . . . or letting them go after many years of being a part of your family.

Just know that we who have lost a furkid or more share your pain and sorrow.

Dawn,
I'm so sorry to hear of Poppy's short life. But, I know from your many past postings, she was well loved and cared for. Hattie will watch over here.

Poor little pup. At least she knew what love was, unlike the thousands of mill dogs that only know of pain and misery. Thank you for loving a life time with that baby.
