i've had it up to here. This boy is 2 years old and still pees in front of the pee pads. grrrrr. i go through very few p.p. pads...only tons of paper towel rolls and the liquid stain and oder remover stuff.  :cussing: :grrr:
No stores sell the Purina Second Nature box here, and i've checked jefferspet.com doesn't carry it (Waaaa!) petsmart does but i would have to pay about $20 for shipping but i was wondering if anyone uses it, what size did you get? i noticed they have different sizes/heights and wondering about these short legged guys if "tiny" "miniature" or "standard" size box is good??
OR...do they make cat litter boxes that have a low-opening door?
I love my little guy, but he would be a perfect 100% angel if he just did this one thing. I can get on the floor on my hands and knees and clean it all up only for him to do it again 5 minutes later. I take care of my special needs Doxie girl which is nothing compared to having to scrub the floor many times a day!!
Just when I think maybe finally he's getting the hint (he has gone on command "GO PEE PEE!" twice in the middle of the pad) then it hasn't happened again. We do'nt have a yard and he doesn't "go" outside anyway except if he's held it for a couple of hours and really gotta go. He does, however, aim his #2's in the right place?!?!
Any suggestions? Thank you from "Pee-Boy" 's Mommy & Grammy

I have one can't remember what size. It's never been used. No one ever seemed to be able to grasp the idea of what it was there for and I wan't sure how to train the boys to the box. I do know of people who have indoor dogs in major metro areas that have trained their animals to use a conventional cat litter box. My cre did think the Purina litter was something to try and eat or at least chew up and spit out. I'm not so sure how much I would recommend their doggy litter since it is made our of recycled newspaper complete with the ink. I can only imagine how the ink might bleed and gotentially get tracked around the house by a set of damp paws.
You might have better luck getting your boy to use teh box since he iis already pad trained (at leat to some extent is. Placing the pad in the box he might go there. Try looking at it from his point of view he is most likely standing over the pad when he let's go it's jsut that the stream over shoots the pad:dizzy:
Good luck,

Larger pee pad? When his front feet are on the pad, the back should be okay, right? Actually, I have heard of dogs with that problem. Get a plastic table cloth with a cloth backing and cut it into giant washable pee pads -- cloth side up and plastic down. You could use them under the current pads and see if he can hit the larger ones.

My mom had the same problem with her older male going beside the pad. She put a bucket in the middle of the pad (something to aim for) and he got the hint. Just something to try, I know this is very frustrating. Maddy (our girl) has no problem using them, but we have to keep clean ones out, she wont get her paws dirty on a dirty pad:fierce: .
Hope he figuires it out:) .

I bought Second Nature at Petco here in Massachusetts. I was told by my vet that I could use compressed wood pellets instead of the litter--and it's working out fine---it just turns to sawdust. The trainin pads didn't work with Penny, but she's doing great with the box. Good Luck!!

I finally found a store that carries them! (all 3 sizes-"toy" was just out of the question, "Miniature" looks right size, but I didn't pick one up because I'm still worried about the height of the opening door. I'll have to look at some cat boxes, and someone suggested a home/hardware store for 'plastic pans they use to mix cement in' (????) All i want is a low-opening for the short little legs. He doesn't lift his leg...just squats. :dizzy:

You can get pellets that they use for wood burning stoves as littler. My friend uses them for her guinea pigs. I think they are to heavy and wood chips for the piggers is easier. The pellets can be bought at Fleet Farm, Menards and other hardwood stores.
I think the table cloth idea is great. It is so frustrating when they can't seem to hit the right spot. Right now we could use new carpeting in the whole house. The incontence problems some of my older dogs have had is hard too. Chewy likes to poo on the deck instead of the grass. I am so glad he at least makes it out there. Most of the time.
Ok I haven't seen the litter boxes for dogs, so I'm not sure what they look like. But how high are they? Couldn't he just do a little jump to get in? Again the hardware stores might have something you could use. Check out the farm section, or automotive. Don't they make something to catch oil in? Guys you might have better ideas. Or what about a smaller plastic baby pool? I used those for puppies whelping years ago. My PG doxie didn't have any problems. Or get a large plastic dog crate. Use the bottum half only. They could walk into that. I know you would'nt want to confuse him if that is what you use for his crate. Just trying to help.
Good luck! :flush:

Hi,
I bought the miniature sized pan for my two new babies. They came home Saturday and were using it on their own this morning. The new pan design has a low spot to get into it on the longest side, so my tiny ones can get in. I could not be more thrilled. My pups are looking quite tiny, but since both will be using it I got the next size. You can find where to get the litter and compare prices at their website. I ended up buying it at Petco, since we have one a few miles away, but my local pet store owner said he keeps it in stock because his dogs use it. I have had to toss a big towel in their pen because the first thing they did was "bury" their squirrel, but I just take it out and put it under the towel. Ruben chewed the litter but I just stuck a chew in his mouth and removed him from the pan. I don't know about using the wood for chewers, but then paper probably isn't the best either, but it doesn't smell, so I happy with it-so far.
