Just had to share the exciting news... I can feel Lexie's ribs!!! :spotting:
We switched to Wellness Fish & Sweet Potato, cut back some on the portions, added more green beans (on sale at Minyard's 3 for $1 for the Texans here), and we're walking farther on our weenie walks. Baby steps, but we're making progress! Now if we could get her to stop eating every single worm she passes she'd probably lose more weight

Good work! I have to take Bogart to the vet Friday. I don't think he's lost an ounce. I don't know how he does it. I keep feeding less, but he doesn't lose weight. Could it be he and hoodaddy are raiding the frig after I go to bed?

I just realized my comment about the worms could be taken a couple of ways... what I MEANT was if we could get her to stop eating every single dried up earthworm she passes ON THE SIDEWALK when we're walking...!

Congratulations,

We know it's nerver as easy or fast to get the weight off as it is to put on. In the long run gettting them down to a healthy weight benefits them in so many ways. Less strain on the back and heart, more energy in general. All the hard work and effort will be worth it in the long run.

Congratulations. It is not an easy job. Natural Balance and green beans and pumpkin are working here too. Tess and Kibby are both lean and trim -- Stinker is doing fine too... now Lucy, well we gotta figure out how to get a bit more off without totally starving her!

Woohoo! Congratulations! I know what hard work it is - I had to get 4 pounds off Siglen a couple of years ago. Mine don't eat worms - moths seem to be the desirable treat here - ptui! Julia B.

Thanks for the encouragement... it's great to see some results, and so quickly... I'm liking that. ;) One of Lexie's many nicknames is 'Hoover'. When we walk down the sidewalk there are tons of dried up worms in front of her but after she passes over them they're all gone! She even gnaws them off the pavement if they're stuck... we're so proud.

Speaking of nicknames we used to call her our Big Fat Greek Weenie, but she's not so fat anymore! :jacks:

How disgusting and I so relate. My Gretchen will dig the ground to get live worms and suck them up like spaghetti. It makes me want to gag when I see her do it. She also loves to suck snails out of their shells. I find little piles of empty snail shells in my yard. I really appreciate her keeping them out of my flower garden so I don't stop her. One time she came in the house with snail foam all over her face, she looked like a rabid dog! I wanted to barf! Go figure. It made me wonder if I was not feeding her the right foods but now that I hear your stories I feel better (I think) knowing it's just a Doxie thing...... But still YUCK!

I have also seen mine gnaw old dead stuck worms off the sidewalk. Yuk! I"m glad Lexie is losing weight. Bogart lost a pound but no ribs yet. We're still working on that.

OMG, Bren... I do believe Gretchen has Lexie beat in the gross out factor. Live worm sucking and snail foam? LOL :sarcastic
I have noticed the more I cut back on her food the more worms Lexie scrapes off the sidewalk when we walk... oh well, they seem to be low fat.

I brought home food for the girls the other day and hadn't put it away when I walked in the kitchen and saw Lexie 'praying to the food'... she layed on the floor with her head between the two bags and didn't move a muscle for about 10 minutes... she didn't touch the bags, just sat there waiting patiently... could she be any sweeter??!!

She has more will power than my pack. They would not be able to be left with food on the floor. Plus I have a cat that helps by attacking the bag if they don't see it first.
I hope you gave her a green bean or carrot at least. ;)

LOL The cats and Rooby would tear into the bags, but if you notice none of them are in sight! Lexie has serious food agression, so they give her a wide berth when food's involved! And yes, for doing such a good job of guarding the bags, Lexie got a nice tasty biscuit and lots of hugs and sweet talk. ;)

Congratulations on Lexie's ribs. I am still working on Junie's ribs. sigh....

That's a cute picture of Lexie with the food. She has more patience than my Bunny. Every morning, Bunny wakes up with me and while I am cutting up her food and measuring, she keeps on barking and barking and barking. :dog: Drives me crazy. I give her a little something to hunt while I try to finish the food. If I'm mad at my son, though, then I let her bark.

The other two patiently wait for their food, no problem.

That pic is soooo cute, she must have the patience of a cat.
Thanks for sharing.

It looks like Lexie is going to enjoy the smell of the food even if you won't let her eat as much as she would like to. By the way good job on getting her weight down. I'm starting to think I may have to buy some Avo-light to start working on Tanner's weight. It would be haed to feed him much less than he gets now but he keeps gaining weight.

LITE varieties. They are mostly fillers and grain. If I wanted to have the dog lose weight, I'd feed the regular brand, less of it and add green beans and other veggies in place.

Faye, my girls do the barking thing too. Lexie started it and now it's become a ritual... I put their bowls on the counter and they coming running... and then it starts... the ear piercing, at the top of their lungs, like they haven't eaten in weeks, barking, barking and then more barking. :dizzy: Sometimes I can quiet them down, but I usually just let them have at it... they get soooo excited when it's time to eat... LOL We've just learned there's no point in attempting conversation until the food's prepared and the girls are snarfing it down.
