Well...okay...I was planning a little mini vacation to the beach, likely Destin, FL, and had found a great pet friendly hotel and everything! I was so excited thinking, 'yay! I get to bring the puppers for a walk and romp down the beach (not letting them touch the oil water of course!!)!'. BUT...to my extreme dissapointment...they don't allow dogs on the beaches, even if they are leashed (as I was planning on doing).
I did some more searching and found that only residents are allowed dogs on the beach, and they have to have permits. But visitors are not allowed to bring them on a beach at all.
So...the whole point of my mini vacation is ruined! I don't know where to go on a mini vacation now that is only a few hours away as Destin is, since we only have a couple days to stay away. I did look into local dog parks, but with my little Pixie being only four months old, I don't want her to go to a dog park where she can't quite stand up to other dogs, even those her size.
Any ideas anyone? I know there are a lot of pet friendly places in Florida, so it seems, but there doesn't seem to be much for them to do during the day to wear them out as I had planned.
:tongue02: - that's what I think about beach rules! ;)

I'm sorry that your vacation plans didn't work out.:sorry: Hopefully, you will be able to come up with an alternative for a get away. :crsfnger:
In defense of the residents only rule: If they have to have a permit, that tells me that they probably have to submit up-to-date shot records, maybe a health certificate, etc. If other non-resident dogs are allowed to roam the beach, there is no way to control any health issues. Also, those residents pay big $$ to have a place on the beach and probably have a vested interest in keeping it clean and healthy - where non-residents may not take that kind of interest.

Oregon lets you bring your pets to the beach. No fees. I have never taken the weens but have thought about taking Kai and Molly lately. The other two would most likely not enjoy it. I fear of getting sand in Shiloh's eyes and BeBe would just freeze like a little weensicle :)

I don't know what to tell you, but that really stinks! We actually have a park here at a lake, and they have signs saying no dogs allowed with a picture of a cartoon dachshund! I am so very offended by those signs, I'm telling you...

Yeah, I understand the reasoning for needing a permit and whatnot, and being a resident makes getting a permit possible. I'm just being silly...wishing I could bring my pups :Sun2:!!
I'm hoping to find a beach that's not within city limits that lets animals on...and I've found some in certain areas that are, but none so far in an area I will be able to go to.

I see alot of parks here have no dogs allowed signs posted, well I really cant say here since we are so far out in the boonies but when we get into the bigger areas where there are parks. Sorry your trip to the beach was ruined for you and your puppers, hope you can find someplace to take them. We have a creek and trails out back, being in the country that mine go on, makes it nice for them.

I found a beach to bring my puppers!!
I did some more searching and found that Dauphin Island in Alabama gladly allows pets on their beach…except on the West end where people “pay to not have the privilege of pets”!!
YAY! I get to bring my furkids to the beach! :bouncy1:
We are going to stay in a pet friendly hotel in Mobile, which is only a little over a half hour away from Dauphin Island. The island doesn’t really offer any hotels or affordable locations. So hopefully Ripley and Pixie (of whom I need to get pictures up of) will enjoy the sand. My luck we will go and they will be scared of it!
Anyway…so happy now! Now just to hope for some beautiful weather! :Sun2:

Glad you found someplace. We have some pet friendly places to stay here and allow pets on the beach, on a leash, before 9 am and after 5pm during the summer but that is the best time to go anyway as it is less hot (maybe only upper eighties, LOL!). Anytime the rest of the year. All of ours love the beach and swimming in the ocean, expecially Auggie. We haven't been there lately though. We actually go more in the "off season".
