My mini dachshund has been throwing up awfully frequently the past couple of weeks, like once every couple of days. Often it's
just a little frothy liquid, but today it had a couple half-digested kibbles in it. We generally figure she's eaten something she shouldn't (she's so low to the ground it's hard to tell!) but this has been pretty steady. She seems to feel fine unless she's just about to throw up; she eats, drinks, and poops normally. No new toys or bones or anything.
We feed her Nutro Max Mini Size. Could she be developing an allergy to it? Any other ideas?

One suggestion I might have is for you to look around at any places she might be able to get into. Have any cabinets been open? Look at houseplants that might have been snacked on...My husband brought home what he thought were pretty flowers. Jakey started throwing up and when I looked around, I saw that Bart had brought home Morning Glories. Morning Glories are toxic and luckily Jakey only ate enough to get a yucky tummy-ache. Call your vet and ask what he/she thinks you should do. Whenever you are dealing with a problem like this, you always want to be on the safe side. A small creature (be it human or dachsund) can dehydrate quickly.

First of all, Welcome and we hope you decide to register and stay and vist and share funny http://dachsie.org/ubb/lol.gif stories about your baby! Next... How about putting her on the white rice, babyfood (turkey or chicken) and cottage diet for a few days and see if the vomiting stops. I'd do this between now and when you can get into the vet. Also... I feed BARF (raw beef mixture, he's a link to the recipe http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/1848/recipe.html ) and have been feeding it for about 3 weeks now. Owen tended toward irritable bowl syndrome on kibble, and he hasn't had ONE episode since I've switch him http://dachsie.org/ubb/ksmile.gif It's something to think about....
Keep us up to date!

I also suggest checking with a vet to make sure she gets a clean bill of health. My older dog. Brendan, a Lab/Chow mix vomits at least once a week, sometimes a few times a week. Usually it's yellowish and frothy, on a rare occasion he'll toss up a semi-digested piece of food as well. We had the vet look him over, and he can find no cause. Brendan's not dehydrated, and since everything else is "as normal", he's not terribly worried. One suggestion he made was to feed him smaller amounts of food more often, rather than a couple larger meals. A potential cause of the throwing up is that he just doesn't have anything in there, and the excess stomach bile is contributing to it. Feeding Brendan a little more often, or providing him with a morning snack seems to help in his case.

Please, Please, Please phone your vet!
Not quite a month ago my little Penny was doing the same thing. She started out throwing up only a yellowish frothy liquid - then just little bits of food until after 5 days she was not keeping anything down. She ended up needing emergency surgery for a partial bowel obstruction. (She had a piece of string with a bit of fabric on it caught partially in her stomach and partially in her bowel - couldn't vomit it up - couldn't pass it.) We were very lucky that our vet decided to do exploratory surgery - she didn't have the 'classic' symptoms of a bowel obstruction and was difficult to diagnose.
I'm probably ALWAYS going to over react now when I hear of a dachsie vomiting, but I'd so rather your little mini be safe than sorry!

Our mini also vomits up a few times a month. Sometimes more than others. We had him checked out, clean bill of health. It was after that we noticed that when he's excited (ie knows he's going on a car ride or for a walk) or when we feed him right after we get home and he hasn't calmed down, that he has problems. But I would suggest having him checked out.

Howdy Lisa!
There is a lot of great advice and many caring people on this board. Hope you stay.
My mini Wotan also urps up a couple times a month. He's been eating grass, and I think the chicken turd pates he's been sneaking is what's upsetting him. Also, if he hasn't eaten in a while, drunk a pile of water and is laying under the blankie with me, then he gets too hot and pukes. Puked on me,once

Do,do,do get her to the vet asap-could be something serious. Rule out the worst and work from there, Good luck.

Hi, Lisa, and welcome to the world's best dachshund bulletin board! Please do stick around and join us--we have lots of fun here, and some good info gets passed around in between the fun stuff! http://dachsie.org/ubb/wink.gif
Agree with everyone here. It MIGHT be just stomach acid because of an empty stomach, but it COULD be something serious, so get thee to your vet, probably sooner, rather than later. Just to be sure. That's always best!
Good luck and let us know the outcome!

Thank you all for the advice. I will take her to the vet as soon as possible, and in the meantime put her on rice and baby food. (Annie says a special thank you for that advice! Basmati is her favorite.) Normally I take her to the vet at the drop of a hat, being a nervous type of mom, but it does make me feel like a hypochondriac by proxy! I'll let you know what happens.
