Okay here's the deal - Dudley will go outside and pee and the pee again but not very much. This will take him awhile to do so as I stand outside with him running out of time. I think he must be done but after I bring him in put him in his safe room and feed him - he'll pee a river. Thank goodness he goes on his potty pad. But what or how should I handle this? I really don't have all day to wait until I know for sure he's emptied his bladder. I never had this problem with Mitzi so I'm at a loss as what to do other then wait him out.

I'm not really sure what you should do. I've never had this problem. Have you tried taking him out again after he eats? Does he pee outside then?

Shonda,
Woody has done, and is starting to do this again. Not sure if it is the rain had, or what... but it is starting to get to me. He has been SO GOOD. Went almost a week without an accident so for him to do this the past two days... it's frustrating.
I think we need to have a talking to our boys :)

so frustrating housebreaking our puppers.
I know Kamper would go a little while and then would have a spell where he would go inside.:crying:
It took a good 3 months before he finally got the picture.
I didnt take my eyes off him when I was home and he was in his crate when I was at work and he would not go in that.
I promise it felt like we were going outside every 10 minutes.:dizzy:

My boys will go outside and go, and then come inside to play. During play, they will leave me anywhere from none to 4 puddles each. And they do so without warning. Short of taking them out every 5 minutes, I haven't found a way to prevent this, and even then, I think they'd still find a way to go inside. I know they don't "have" to go, since they just did outside, but they still do.
Baxter is getting a little better at it than Bailey, but neither one is good. I know it is part of the drill, and they are only 4 and 4 1/2 months old, but it's still frustrating. Especially because we know they *can* go longer - they've never had an accident in their crates.
Oh well, I guess it's part of the joys of puppy parenting.

This morning Dud left a little puddle in the bed. He's never done this before and it wasn't because I didn't take him out fast enough. I think he might have went in his sleep or when he just woke up. He takes is own sweet time waking up. He's quite funny. He'll sit or lay there then when we're outside he'll stumble around like he's drunk. I think this just might be our problem - he's just not awake enough to do all of the deed.
I know this will take time and he's pretty good about not going while playing thank goodness.
But he does pee when people want to talk to or pet him. I sure hope this stage passes cause I don't think I can handle it for long.

When Pebbles was a puppy we used to have that trouble with her. She just couldn't seem to wake up. She would seem really sleepy and disoriented. One night she fell asleep on my husband's chest and when she woke up, she sat up yawned and peed on him! Luckily that stage did pass.

Woody is the same way with pee'ing when still just about asleep... Jake did it a 3 times when he was younger.
It will pass... and I forgive him when I get that look... You CAN'T stay mad... no matter how many times he potties after being outside :)

Dudley and Woody are. Could this be a maturity issue? Are they going through a hormonal or equipment change that is effecting them.
I don't have boys but with the girls I've never had a problem until their heat cycles started. They don't seem to be able to tell the difference between the estrus sensation and the urination sensation. Each girl was different Cindy peed a couple of time when picked up, possibly squeezed. Tori had a little urination leakage at night. With Molly it was less time for me to respond to her request to go out.
I think this will pass. Have you tired giving Beckie a call, maybe it's a normal phase her boys go through. Good Luck.

The boys are about 3 1/2 months old. I think it's just a phase... It didn't last long with Jake... and I don't think it's a boy/girl issue... it's a puppy thang :)
Shonda,
I would take Dudley outside immediately after he eats (whether it's full meal or treats), even if you've taken him out within the past 30 minutes or an hour. My experience has always been with all my dogs they will do some business after eating.

I've learned with Mitzi if I take her out after she eats she doesn't have to go and then when she came back in it was more like 2 hours before the food kicked in. Go figure. So now all I have to do is learn Dudley's time table (it shouldn't be to hard - YEAH right, it has only taken me 2 years to figure out that Mitzi will only poo after she's been out once to pee then after she's had some food - silly dog).

kibble takes a LONG time to go through the digestive tract. An excess of 12 hours. So....you must realize that morning's walk is probably dinner. We take Chief out first thing in the morning...and then before dinner, and at least 2x times before bedtime. You guys don't say if there's a specific time that this "pee-a-thon" goes on but if it's AFTER dinner..you might try and limit water access after 7-8pm. If it's really hot, ice cubes are good.
Just a few thoughts...:D

that Mitzi's is from her dinner the night before but it's just that I've now caught on to how to do things HER way. If I leave her outside after the potty she'll just wait until I've fed her to do her poo. I know I'm so slow sometimes. But at least now I've caught on and we've had no accidents concerning Mitzi (finally).
Now with Dudley his river peeing is after I've taken him out in the am. He'll piddle 2 times then one big one after he's brought back in but this occures on his papers so I'm not to worried about it for now. I'd like to start crate training him since he should be able to hold it for longer periods of time. I've been putting this off since I've had to work through lunch and since Mitzi has free run of the house while I'm gone. She's been such a good girl. :D

in my opinion to crate train them. If they should ever have a back injury, they need to be confied to STRICT crate rest and if they are trained to use the crate, it won't be a real problem. I have heard countless stories of dachshunds really putting up a fuss when they are first introduced to a crate when they are having back difficulties.

for now it's easier on him and me to leave him in the bathroom since I'm gone for 9 hours at a time.
He does get put in the crate for shorter times like when I'm off to the store or I'm out mowing the lawn. But as soon as I'm able to take time off for my lunches he'll go in the crate. :D
