Just thought I'd see what everyone else feeds. Molly and Lucy are "big" mini dachshunds------their momma was small but daddies were big. We give them 1/3 cup Nutro Lamb and Rice twice a day. Molly is longer and looks really good. Lucy is short and pudgy-----she's been that way since she's been a puppy. We really try not to give them but maybe two small treats a day----we give them Pupcorn which is lowfat. Lucy has an appitite that she could eat all day long if we let her! Does the proportion sound okay? Too much?

... what works best for the individual doxie. One of mine gets more food than that; the other two get less.

Willy gets 1/2 cup in the afternoon, 1/4 cup at night.
Ivan and Hannah get 1/3 cup in the afternoon, 1/4 cup at night.

Ivan and Willy are currently eating Wellness Chicken Super5Mix.
Hannah is on regular Canidae. I plan to rotate her over to Wellness when the Canidae is about gone.

I feed raw food and have found that I feed less than when I fed kibble/canned food. Bogart and Cash are on diets so they get about a tablespoon of meat and a tablespoon of pumpkin morning and night. It's working, too. Bogart lost a pound the first 3 weeks! Miller doesn't have a weight problem and gets 1/4 cup am and pm and Amanda, my senior mix, gets 1/2 am and pm. She's always been active and eats a lot and never seems to gain. I wish I could say that about me!

metabolism rates just like humans. You have to see what works for each indiividual dog. Just be sure your dog isn't overweight as it does take a bigger toll on a dachsie (due to their predisposed risk to back problems). Feed a high quality dog food and be sure your dachshund gets plenty of exercise.
