This is why you dachshund must be restrained and crated.
On my way to visit Elissa and Joe I was in an accident. The man in front of me slammed on his breaks while at the end of the merge lane in Chicago area traffic, he didn't want to hit a goose. The boys were safely crated and are fine. My airbag and seat belt did their jobs. My car will most likely be totaled, my sternum is cracked and my wrist is severely strained but not broken. I am thankful that God and Cheddar were watching over us yesterday. Hug your babies tight. Keep them safe. Tell those that you love how much they mean to you. It can be gone in a moment...

So glad you and the pups were safe! What happened to them while you went to the hospital?
:rayz::rayz::rayz: for you and a quick recovery of injuries.

I wouldn't leave the boys. My mom took me to the hospital once we got back to Wisconsin. No matter how much I hurt I couldn't leave then alone and scared.

:yikes2:WOW what a picture. So glad you and your pups are ok. I remember someone saying they have something taped to the crate with info on the dogs and a notice saying - please take to an emergency vet; all costs for treatment and/or boarding will be covered, with emergency contacts etc. Sounds like a good idea. Thanks to your mom for coming to get you and the pups and taking care of everyone. And thank you Cheddar :angel1: for watching over everyone.

OMGOSH!!!!! I am so glad you are OK Michelle!!! Although I know how much a broken sternum hurts, and you will be in my thoughts so much over the next six weeks. Please follow the docs orders and not lift anything for I did and made my recovery so much worse. Although I hate to see this post, it is posted just in time as I am moving to NC in a few days and was debating whether or not to crate the kiddos for the long trip. Now I will. I hope you recover quickly, and your sternum pain is slight, mine was horrific. I too would wait until I got home to be seen and not leave the babies unless it was life and death, I just couldn't leave them so scared in a strange environment. You will be in my thoughts and prayers, heal quickly. I am ssending you those magical:rayz::rayz::rayz::rayz::rayz: just for that!

Whenever transporting for rescue we always had to have ID on the crates for the dogs.
On my way home from work yesterday I was thinking about Michelle's accident, and when I got home I told Darin that I want to move the crates in the car because right now we have them in the back of the Aztek. Our middle seats fold up, so I want them in the middle of the vehicle now (it's an SUV), instead of the back because if we were ever rear-ended they would get the damage and the middle is safer.
It's a very good reminder for us all. There's always something to learn. We're so happy Michelle is safe and hope you will recover quickly. Please, if there's anything we can do, let us know.

So happy you're okay!
I have to admit I'm bad about allowing Snickers to ride in the front seat, or on top of her stroller in the back seat (she's think it's a bed). This is a great reminder.

OMG, I'm SO glad you are all okay, relatively speaking. So sorry about your injuries, but it's great that the pups are fine. You can replace your vehicle, not your furkids -- or YOU! Many :rayz::rayz::rayz::rayz::rayz: for quick healing!!

My sentiments exactly. Material things can be replaced and wounds will heal. Sure hope that you're feeling better every day. Take care and rest, rest, rest. *huge hugs*

We have that info. attached to the crates along with a picture of the dog - just in case someone would open the crate door and there would be an escape. Also included in the info. is the dog's microchip #.

Sending healing thoughts your way Michelle! Great thoughts from everyone about ID and info to go on crates - putting together our rescue newsletter and I'm going to include this important information in it.
