I got the name Maggie Mae from the Rod Stewart song Maggie Mae
Kamper that comes from thinking of going camping and hence the name Kamper
Natasha was already named.
Our new girl that we are adopting has the same name as Maggie Mae. She is 2 years old and I hope we can change it. Maybe something close to it. :flower:

Otto sounded like a good stong German name and was the name of an old neighbor of mine.
Dolly came with that name and did that cute turned head thing when I said her name.
Gertrude got her name from what my sister used to call me when I was little. Good German name.

When I named Jake... I just thought he looked like a Jake to me :) He seems to like it too :)

When I thought about a 2nd pupper... I thought Elwood right away... the Blues Brothers thing... but I didn't set my mind on that for a while (as you can see in other posts and threads about when I first decided to get Woody :)

Casey was named by my dad. Whenever I called the house my mom would hand the phone to my dad and he would answer "Casey Jones Horse and Mule Barn - Head Mule Speakin!"
So that is where Casey Jones got his name.

Missy was named after my first dachshund Mitzi who mom and dad got when I was a year old.

Zeke came with his name from rescue (and it fits him).

I named Magic my long hair because when I saw her the first time I said "she will bring Magic back in our lives." We just lost Marco shortly before..and I kept calling her Magic girl..it stuck.

Misty my short hair got her name because it was a misty rainy morning when I received the phone call she was born. She was suppose to be a long hair, well someone thought different..I wanted her anyway.

My new one (a long hair red sable) Im bringing home I have no idea why Im naming her Mirri....maybe because she is a sort of mirror image of Marco or she is just so cute to me she was a mirage..not real. I cannot figure out how my mind works.

PS....I also seem to want to keep the M's in the names...I loved the name Maggie as a child..also it's a dedication to Marco Polo...my little dachshund adventurer who got into everything..including hiding under my wedding dress when I was taking my vows!

My husband Chris named Otto - at the time we had a Beta fish which we named K-k-k-k-k-en (after Michael Palin's character in a Fish Called Wanda - we thought Wanda would be too obvious); when we got the dog, Chris decided that Otto would be perfect to name after Kevn Klein's character in the same movie ("DON'T CALL ME STUPID!). Since the dog was black and the character perpetually wore black - it fit.

As for Hijinx - I originally wanted to name her Jinx after Halle Berry's character in the James Bond film - Chris didn't like that much, however when we went up to see her the second time, I noticed that she was so hyper that all four paws never seemed to touch the ground at the same time (we learned later that she only EVER walks on 3 paws!). So, I called her Hijinx on the spot and both Chris and the breeder loved it!

Owen's Mom
07-18-2003, 02:14 PM
I named Owen after the main character of John Irving's novel A Prayer for Owen Meany. He is everything that Owen was in the book!! The rescue lady named him Ringo and that just didn't fit, but Owen sure does :)

I had a list of about 30 names waiting for "My Puppy". :) Willow is the only one she reacted to. When I said it she would look at me and do the little head tilt thing.

It fit well with the rest of my animals. My two big dogs are named after tv characters, Bubba Skinner from The Heat of the Night and Scandal Jackson a Michael Dutikof character. In the past I had a cat named Dennis Finch-Hatton, Robert Redford in Out of Africa, and a cat named Jean Luc Picard, the captain of the Enterprise on Next Gerneration.

So Willow Rose is named for my favorite character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Willow Rosenberg. (Who is also a redhead. :))

07-18-2003, 06:05 PM
My three have all been named after cars we have!

My husband restores Mini Cooper 'S'. Cooper came first, so when we added Mini to the family, there was no choice about her name.

When we bought a new Rover, I thought it was an omen that we needed another dog! His name always brings a smile and a comment from anyone we meet! His breeder gave him the registered name "Zyzeal Regal Rover"

We still have a couple more names to use, so I will have to get a couple more dogs!

I thought Timber was a cute name. That's all. LOL.

Rupert's Mommy
07-20-2003, 10:09 PM
Rupert just fit him - or should I say he fit "Rupert"....We didn't have a name for him for the first few days we had him. My boyfriend suggested Rupert and it was perfect. :)

When I got Rocky, I took him to my mother's house (to show him off) which is about 30 minutes away from where I live. The town she lives in is called Rocky Head, so she is actually the one who mentioned the name Rocky!!:D I thought it was cute and it has turned out to fit him perfectly!!!! He thinks he is Rocky Balboa at times!!!

Maximus was the last pup to go from his litter. He was so shy and so afraid of everything. He was only 2.3 lbs. when we got him at 5 weeks old, which was way too soon.

We knew he needed a very strong name, or we thought he would have a complex.

Gladiator was the hit movie at the time. Maximus just seemed to fit.

Names sometimes can be difficault.

GOOSEMan has his name because of the sound of his bark - he sounds just like a honking goose.

Sassy, Weezer and Farel came to me with ther names.

Trey name is 3 in spanish and she only hs 3 legs.

Edie was named after zfter the ice cream.

Kohls was given the name beacuse he is so dark and I work at that Kohls departmetn store.

Elsa jsut sound like a grand name form a lovely "grand looking" standard wheaton wire.

We named our current two by going through the baby name book until we found names we agreed on.

Cassandra means "unheeded prophetess" and is appropriate because Cassie is usually whining for some reason, and we mostly try to ignore her (The Wiener Dog Who Cried Wolf). :sarcasti:

Angel is pretty angelic - she is VERY sweet and sensitive.

Tristan was named after the opera "Tristan and Isolde."

(My mom's and) my cocker spaniel came from the breeder with her name, "Forever Amber" (there was a book by that name).

Haley was named by Connie of Central Texas Dachshund Rescue. Haley's name upon arriving in rescue was Lucy. Connie renamed her, as she does with most, if not all, rescues. If I remember correctly, Connie had the name picked out before she even met Haley. It turned out for the best - Haley's name fits her to a "T". Of course, my little puddin' had to have a middle name. So, I added Joy and she's Haley Joy! I will be owned by her for 2 years on Sept. 28.
And she is a joy, too!!! :flower:

Beck was the name they gave him at the rescue place. I thought about changing it to Moses, because he like to mosey around the house, or Shadow because he's like my little shadow. But I figure he's just got use to his new name and since he's been through God knows what, the last thing my poor baby needs is more change in his life! :scared: :dizzy:

We had originally thought we'd get a cream and a b/t, any sex okay, and wanted two names that were an obvious match (like Jake & Elwood) so we came up with pair names. We had watched American Idol and thought Ruben and Clay would be original, but didn't want to get a cream from too far away, and no one near us breeds them, so those names didn't work. We came up with lots of other pair names, but when we had what was supposed to be a male b/t and a female smooth born we decided on Ruben and Trenyce from American Idol. If you watched the show at all, and read about our little ones, you'd see they fit the "big boy" and "diva girl" images. Ruben has such a laid back personality. Trenyce really is the little prissy, fussy diva. Ruben still has some dark fur, Trenyce is obviously a warm brown. Ruben has stocky down. Trenyce is a little on the skinny side.

When we got Buddy, his name was "Wally" Andrew did not like this so we went in search of a new name for him. The entire first day, he kept calling him "buddy" and said if i didn't come up with a name, he would get too used to buddy....and i decided i liked it so i kept it. Heidi came with her name so I'm not sure what her story is.

We are such a musical family! The entire family is dedicated to music and with that in mind we thought why not start a composer theme for the dogs.

Motzart - probably self explanatory!
Clara - Clara Josephinne Schumann (18th Century Pianist)
Gershwin - probably self explanatory!
Charlie - Or rescue. Luckily he came with this name and we found a composer (Charles Gounaut)
Nala - She came to us prior to the musical theme but the music from the Lion King is awsome so we let her slide.

We also have "Cat" and she does on occasion, usually very early in the morning, play the Grand Piano.

What a crazy Bunch!

Modem was given her name because my brother was having severe migrain headaches so my mom took him in for a allergie test. Will after giving it to him the doctor told my mom he was allergic to dogs. We had a yellow lab at the time and mom trying to do the right thing got her a new home.

Well several months went by and he was still having the headaches so my mom took him in again to have a different type of allergie test to rule out any mistakes. well he came up negitive to everything including dogs. so as you can well imagine he was upset our lab was gone.

At the same time my step dad was saving up money for a computer modem for his computer. and well you guessed it instead of getting a computer modem he got a lil doxie Modem.

Molly was named Molly well just because she looks Molly.

Past dogs:
Cleo was named by my brother after Cleopatra. Taffy was just the perfect name for her. Hunter was named by my son because he wanted Hunter to be a real good hunter.

Current dogs:
Cooler was named by my son after Cooler on the show "Pound Puppies". I'm not sure why my son chose the name Bunny, but it was the right name. Junie was named after my middle name, June. Trixie just looked like a Trixie.

And Silver Belle is because she is a Silver Dapple, and We got her before Christmas... So Silver Belles... lol It fits her well I must say. She loves to jump for one, and she loves making noise... LOL Her fav. thing to do is prance in the kitchen, tapping her nails as loud as she can. :circle: :D :circle:

How funny, Heide. I named my mixed breed dog Maggie many years ago after Rod Stewart's Maggie Mae. I named Bogart for Humphrey Bogart, my all time favorite actor ever since I first saw Casablanca. Miller, Cash and Sweetums were rescues and were all named when we got them. We felt that they had enough to adjust to without adjusting to a new name so we just kept their names. Amanda was my mother's dog and was also named when I got her.

Both of mine were pre-named when we got them so we decided not to change them.

But I do know Noodle was after the children's book Noodle (about a doxie). Kali I am not sure, but we like it :)

While my wife and I were dating we used to meet at a restaurant called Ollie Gator's. It was halfway between us (I was in Philly, she in S. Jersey) and the food was good.

I'm pretty indecisive, but after lots of deliberation we went with Ollie (of course Ollie Gator is his full name) and it fits him well. I think I call him Gator more than anything else but he still responds best to Ollie.

I was really pushing for Rerun (and thought it was a sign when Fred Berry passed as we were deliberating names) but lost. We are, however, starting to think about another pupper and Rerun would be quite apropos. :circle:

Wouldn't think of making a middle-aged pup learn a new name so Buckwheat kept the name he already had, but we did shorten it up to "Buck." When we get a puppy it will have a people name as all of our pets have always had people names rather than Spot, Fido, etc.

My Hubby and I picked Casey for our furbaby's name becuz..................

Hubby and I were both in law school at the time. He wanted to name him after Supreme Court Justice's, like Scalia, i figured that no one would find that funny but lawyers. So his official name is Chief Justice and our last name, but we just call him Justice (well, everyone but Hubby's best friend, he calls him Chief"

When I adopted Roxy her name was "Mamby". I hated that name! It made me think of "Mamby, Pamby". That is not a proper name for a dachshund!! Fortunately, she didn't answer to her name. I looked at her and thought "she looks like a Roxy" and that's how she got her name. Her full name(only used when she is in trouble) is Roxanne Marie. :)

PennyLover
11-15-2004, 04:56 PM
Let's see.....I named Penny because her name went with Lucky(our cat who has since gone to the bridge)and because she was so small(like a Penny).

Pippit kind of picked his own name. I was wracking my brain for "p" names for the few weeks I waited for him and had quite a big list(thanks, everyone) and then when we got into the car, he popped up to look out the windo and I said, "You'r a little Pippit, aren't you?" and he looked at me, gave me the "ear" and that was his name.

Zor was going to be Ozcar backwards but never did stick with it.
Chewy because at 8 months old he didn't know his name. Magic that didn't fit him. Plus we constantly where saying "NO Chew"
Con was Conner from the breeder but I didn't really like it much. Until I started to call him Con-Man or when I was really ticked called him Con-Vict.
Ivy Ann has always been that. We got her at 4 years old and didn't want to change it. Plus when we found out she was my very first doxies Granddaughter we then new why we kept calling her Corey by mistake. Ivy is blk/tan & Corey was a red. But that is the only difference between the two. Ivy is a true clone in every other way. Temperament personality and even when she is naughty she does the exact same things. What a girl (girl'z)

If I ever get another doxie I would love to name a little girl Zoe!

Well, Napoleon Dynamite was obviously named after the movie. We went to pick him up from the vet in Glen Rose and were thinking of names on the drive back home. I had been looking at a gorgeous chocolate doxie from CTDR that I wanted to name Tyrone after the Erkyah Badu song (which my roommate and I had been listening to a lot). Well, I knew Tyrone just wasn't right for this tiny little pup. So we kept throwing out names. My mom had named our family doxie Theophilus because she said he needed a dignified name. I was thinking the same thing - big name for a little dog. So when Amy said "Napoleon Dynamite," I knew it was just perfect. I love the movie, it's so cute. And it turns out he was born on July 4, so the "Dynamite" part kinda goes along with that holiday - firecrackers and all. :)

I'll try to give you the Reader's Digest version...

Bumper: He was found as a stray where I used to work, and I took him home with me. I didn't name him at first because I was looking for his owners. After a couple of weeks I decided I'd better name him, since he and I were clearly meant to be together. He had a lot of allergies, so he scratched a lot. One day he was sitting across the room from me on the couch next to my (then) husband. I said to him (the dog), "Tell me what your name is", and he started scratching his ear the way Thumper in Bambi used to thump his foot. I said, "Is your name Thumper? Jumper? Dumper? Bumper?...", and when I said "Bumper" he jumped off the couch and ran across the room to me and jumped in my lap!

I told my husband to call him Bumper and see what happened, so he did and he ran across the room back to HIM! So...his name became Bumper, the first true love of my life. He ended up lasting longer and being FAR more dependable than my husband did!

Bailey: I wanted a "B" name to go with Bumper, and I'd kind of reserved the name Bailey for if I ever had a daughter. By then I'd realized I didn't want kids, so that's how she ended up being Bailey.

Peanut: She was SO tiny when I got her from DRNA. She was supposed to have been about 5 months old, but my vet ended up saying it was closer to 3 months. She only weighed four pounds! At first I called her "Tink" because her previous names had been Tulip and Tigger, so I was keeping the "T" thing going. Then, through an animal communicator she told me her name wasn't really Tink, and that she wanted to be called something else. She liked Peanut, which had been another name I'd considered for Bailey, and it certainly suited her, so Peanut it was.

Scooter: When Haas came to me as a foster, I knew the first thing I needed to do was find a name that suited him. I was trying to think of a good name for a dog on wheels. I immediately thought of Scooter (particularly because of how he moves when he's not in his cart), Harley, and Cooper (as in Mini Cooper). Scooter was the obvious choice, and it stuck. His new parents have kept the name.

The End...so far ;)

Lexie had her name when I adopted her, and I kept it. Jack's name was Taylor. My daughter is learning animal communication; when she came to visit from Hawaii, she said Taylor's name was Jack, so I changed Taylor's name to Jack and that's that!

We came up with a list of names that we liked but none of 'em seemed to really fit her so we were jokingly naming her off of road signs like B Drive... after about 30 minutes of this, we saw Mills road and I was like, "MILLIE! Yeah. Millie's it." Claire came from the list.

I went to a fantastic breeder in Culpepper, Va. whom I had met at a dog show the year before, in 2000 - right after my first doxie, my sweety girl Shelby, died  .
When I saw this little bundle of energy running across the floor with his little brothers.... I fell in love & knew that he was leaving with me that day... and the way he just "Scooted" across the floor so fast... He was Scooter at that very moment. :loveshower:

Kari
03-31-2006, 09:57 AM
Corianne was named because I liked the name Corie and I also wanted to name her after a family friend when we'd lived up here previously--Anne.

Casey is named after another dog but not a famous one...my aunt had a dachsie who died very young because she developed a liver problem (I think that's what it was) and started retaining so much fluid she looked like she was pregnant. There was nothing the vet could do for her, and eventually the fluid started crowding her vital organs and she had to be put to sleep. Her name was Casie, so Casey, who is a boy, is named after her.

Abby was named because we liked the name, I'm pretty sure...I wanted to name her Allie but mom and dad named her Abby instead. Which has worked well because she's so ornery (even at age 15!) that you spend a lot of time calling her by her "full" name, Abigail. :P

As far as I know Tyler is Tyler just because mom thought he looked like a Tyler. ;)

Chisai means 'small or little.' I was told he was going to be a mini...NOT!
Bushido means 'Way of the warrior' She really had to fight to stay alive those first few weeks we had her. Now at a year she is still a little warrior. She runs our house and everyone in it!

Well since Missy was 4 when we got her, we didn't know how long it would take for her to figure out her name, so I chose this method. I went through a list of girl names. Missy was sniffing around the house and I called out "Missy!" She came running to me. Just to test, my husband took her in another room, I called out a couple of names again got no response. Then I called out "Missy!" She came tearing into the room.

So we kind of figured that her name must have been Missy since that was the only name she would respond to our first night having her.

When I was looking for a dachsie to get I was joking with my husband (who wasn't too crazy about getting a dog period, but wanted me to be happy!) and told him that we could name him Panzer wich means Tank or Armor in German. My husband jumped at it b/c that is his job in the army he is a Tank Commander. Now my little furbaby is Daddy's little man and Panzer worships is Daddy, the little traitor! His full AKC name is Baron Panzer Von Hexen, a German name for a German dog.

Her first dog was Mabel, then we got Mia and our doxie was named Little Girl at the Humane Society but when I brought her home she became Mazzy. We also have 5 cats - all names start with M & (don't laugh  )8 cows all names start with M, oh yeah, & 2 goats. I'm quickly depleting M names.:D

When we first saw Nugget we thought he looked like a Snickers bar, ot the stuff inside.
So! We decided to name him Nouget but had the word said wrong as well as spelled wrong. Then the week we were getting him we liked Nugget better then Nouget and so we stuck with it.
Daisy is my favorite flower and being in Texas we added the Mae for some "twang"!!!

I first saw Abby when she was only 4 weeks old. I had all sorts of names I had picked out after looking at a site that had doxie names on it...really cute, unique names. The second I saw her and held her, the name Abby was just "there". It was as if something inside told me she *was* Abby. It all felt right...but it was my son picked her middle name after the family tossed around quite a few...she is Abigail May Medd.

The only name I had to pick was Tessa's - everybody else came with a name attached. :) Tessa's "real" name is "Noble Comtessa vom Hellenstein". The kennelname is "Noble somethingsomething" and Comtessa fits the noble, and "Hellenstein" is the castle in the German town I grew up in. :D

I usually name my pets either using names out of my favorite books ( I really like to use JRR Tolkiens names!), or I like to use old egyptian/japanese names. I have always named my pets before I got them. Dont know why, it just always works out perfect that way. Like with my cat, I named her Nadra before I even started looking for her, and when I saw her as a kitten, I knew, it was Nadra!! My last dog was Mehkare, and I got that out of a book. =D

Havent found my doxie yet, but I have the name picked out, so I'll know when I see it! Nefer for a boy, or Miah for a girl.

I work for lawyers - I'd understand! Pretty cute.

Well triscuit cause he was no bigger than a triscuit cracker. So when lil bit came along her akc given name is madame tidbit while his is monsieur triscuit.A tidbit is the generic for a triscuit. But both the same.Next came smokee joe he was named cause of his smoky blue grey. Then came LIL Nemo well she has a mohawk and my daughter said name her spike Isaid you cannot name a lil gal spike so we decided Lil Nemo and mo for short covers both things name and the hair.Next came summoores he was bought from the same woman who triscuit came from her last name was Moore so we got summoores.LOL.Mitzi came with that name into rescue.Skeeter came with his name into rescue also.Slipper got her name cause when I went to pay the vet and rescue her all I saw was the damage to her paws and I told her she needed slippers to be able to go outside to potty. So she truly is a cinderella.

I chose Coco to go with other names in his pedigree, his mother is Ciacolloti Biscotti (Chocolate biscuit), his father Caffeine Buzz, his grandparents are Swiss Mocha, Fudge Ripple, Jamocha Fudge, etc. All the chocolate names because of their color-chocolate or choc/tan.

When we got another, my granddaughter's, she got to name it. She wanted to keep with the "C" name, and since she is taking French in school, she thought of Chanel. At the time she had no idea who Coco Chanel was, but I informed her, and she decided to keep the name. She loved it.

My mini is affectionatly called Buffy, aka Buffy the Tucker Slayer, but if she's barking and barking you can hear me call her Buffalo. Her full name. And she knows she's in trouble.
Bestowed on her by my then 5 year old son that found nothing unusual about naming a tiny puppy after some giant cow like creature. He got his way though, because one of the main reasons for aquiring the puppy was to help him overcome his fear of dogs. Worked like a charm as long as they aren't any bigger than knee high. Now the whole family is in love with my Buffalo girl.

I had a couple weeks from the time I filled out the application until I picked up Bailey. He was named Bizz, but I didn't care for that name. I wanted to keep a"B" name since he was 4yrs old and probably used to the "B" sound. I went to the pedigree website and the have names and their meanings (kind of like baby name books) according to the website Bailey means "trusted guardian of other's property" sounds like a good description of a dachshund to me:smile:

we spent ages thinking up names. my boyfriend and i are both into cars/motorcycles and mixed martial arts. we ended up naming him Britten, after John Britten and the Britten motorcycle, a really unique, carbon-fiber framed motorcycle from new zealand, of which there are only 10 in the world :) he is also "named" (we dont call him that but we decided on it): Britten Barkley Emelianenko - Barkley after Gnarls Barkley, the band, which we both love, and Emelianenko, after Fedor Emelianenko, a Russian heavyweight martial arts champion - he's a big cute teddy bear but fierce.. like a doxie, right? ;) We still need to figure out an AKC name for him.

Some of the rescue doxies come with names. If there is a No Name then we try the alphabet sounds to see what they will respond to, then try different names in that letter or letters of the alphabet.

Some adopters always change the name no matter how long the doxie has had it. This is hard on the doxie to adjust to a new home and a new name, think folks should wait until the new fur-baby settles in.

Three main reasons:

1. After putting a deposit down on Mud, my parents and I went out to eat where I ordered Mud Pie. The colors were exactly the same as Mud's coloring so it made us think of it :)
2. All of Mud's breeder's dogs were named after desserts (including his dad who didn't even belong to the breeder), so it really fit to be called Mud Pie
4. I had a stuffed animal dog named Mud when I was a child and it was one of my favorite ones ever! It wasn't a Dachsie but it looked similiar to Mud with the floppy ears and coloring. So the name in general makes me think of that beloved stuffed dog!

hehe. whew that was long!

When I got my dachshunds from the breeder, they were litter mates. So I was going through a bunch of twin type names (Frick & Frack, Ig & Ook, Hoop & Doop, Cling & Clang, etc). My neice was over when we got them, and one day was watching the little mermaid at the house and she said, "Uncle steve, what about Flotsam & Jetsam". I wanted a black/tan doxie boy and for some reason just felt like I should name him Tyler. But John (soon to be ex) didn't like Tyler, neither did my daughter. They liked Skyler, so Skyler he was named. With the baby, my daughter really liked Hershey. I thought it was cute too until I noticed a TON of other doxie's named Hershey. My last name is James and so *I* picked Jesse. He is Jesse Lee James (I think Lee is sufficiently rednecky for a middle name, and I'm from Bama and dig the rednecky stuff). Skyler is Skyler Beau, because John started calling him Bubba and then just Buhhhh. So I put Beau in there. Technically, since I wasn't married yet Skyler is Skyler Beau White, but we're keeping the name James (my daughter and I) so he can have it too.

I'm going to give you the run down of the whole lot...

My first dachsie's registered AKC name was Tess's Mississippi Liebling and her call name was Missi.

Our two new pups are Peachy Keen and Dolly Bean. Peachy (but spelled Peachie) was my maternal gradmother's nickname because her older sister (Dolores, called Dolly) couldn't pronounce the Slovene nickname Meachie (not correct Slovene spelling) that means little one. And called her Peachie instead.

The Keen was added for extra cuteness and my mom always says things like "That's just peachy keen." too. The bean was added because it rhymed with Keen. (And on a side note my cousin (Mom's sister's daughter) Jill's nickname is Jilly Bean.)

My two cats are Lilly Bitte and Gizmo.
Lilly Bitte's mother's name was Tiger Lilly, so she's just a bit of Lilly. And Gizmo was just an odd fuzzy thing and I named her after the cute little Mogwai in the Gremlins movie from the late 80s/early 90s.

(And many moons ago I had a mutt named Honey Bunn that passed away when I was 3 years old, and a black and white fluffball of a cat named Patches that ran away shortly after we got Missi when I was 9.)

:faint: Phew. That's a lot of names for a lot of cuties. But I love them all. :hearts:

My mother came up with "whining Emma" because of...you guessed it! That howl/talk/whine she does when she wants something.

But mostly we call her Emma Doux or Doosky Doo. It fits her perfectly.

To think I was almost gonna call her STELLA....I figured I'd have fun with it when I called her in from the backyard.

My dad calls GingerSnap "ZoomZoom," because of how she runs around the house during zoomie time. Sooo my next Dachshund is going to be named "Mazda!" (after their "zoom zoom" commercials)

The silly part is I won't be getting another Dachsie for a few years, at least!

We named our Millie, because we had to go to a town name MILford and she was born in the Millenium..So Millie was the name that came to mind.

We rescued Oscar (Oscar Meyer Weiner Dog) already named, but he really likes being called Bubby.

And then there is Buffie, her foster mother said they called her Penelope, she never came to us when we called her by that name, someone had thought the previous owner had called her buffer, my husband said Buffie? and she just jumped in his arms. So that's Buffie.

Lin,

ClayAnne- Prior to getting our red smooth mini I had her name picked out Belle. I thought it was a cute name for a little dog, and not horribly dog sounding. Can't have kids so the furkids I wanted to have more human sounding names. After seeing "Belle" I fell in love with the color of her little eyelashes (cute orange) I thought she had to be named for them. I thought ok I can name her Terra (as in the color Terracotta) realized I had a cousin Tara so that was just not going to work. I decided on Clay (if you think of the clay in some of the southern states it's that color)...Umm Clay for a female so Anne came in the picture. Her first name is simply ClayAnne and her middle name is my maiden name.

When getting Rocky we knew it would be another Red Smooth and a male (Clay is alpha and would not tolerate another female). So I wanted something for his color so I thought Rust we'll call him Rusty. Rescue actually kept his name (as he had not been listed when they told us about him)....so at age of 4 the only thing he came to us with was his name, and I could not change that. There was so much change going on for him...I had to keep his name. Now I think it would have been easier for him then I thought to do the name change as he'll answer to Big Boy and Mr. Handsome...but he's simply Rocky (Roc or Rocster as well).

I have a list of pair names as I think we'll always get a set, but knowing they will always be from rescue..I'm not sure I'll ever be able to name another. I'd like for my next to be smooth b&t and I'd love to name them Ebony and Tanner.

But when Misty the dog was attacking her mother they were going to get rid of Misty so I asked could I claim her and take care of her. So as you know I have Misty and she lives with a human named Misty just as well. I love her so dearly and she loves me back. When I leave she always wants to come with me. When she hears my keys she is at the door waiting. Most of the time she gets to ride but not to work. I don't think she would like it. I work in a produce store where it's COLD!!!! along our search for the perfect dog for our family we told our children (almost 5 and 3 at the time) they would have to care for their dog everyday, walk it everyday, love it everyday, feed it everyday, pick up after her, keep their room clean so she wouldnt eat their toys, having a dog took alot of responsibility, exc.. one afternoon while waiting our turn to go into a room at the humane society with a possible dog we asked Elliott (almost 5) what he wanted to name his dog.. he said Daily, as in everyday. Well, that dog didnt work out and we searched and looked for a couple more weeks until we found our girl we have now. When we asked him again what he wanted to name his new puppy he said "I already told you, I want to name her Daily, just like everyday!" and there was no changing that little boys mind... so Dayley, respelled for uniqueness and a touch of girlishness was her name.

Well Maggie my short red haired baby got her name because she looked my the dachshund that my grandpa had when I was growing up. When my mom and I went to see her we both decided she looked like Maggie so that was her name. When my mom told me she bought Maggie a sister I started trying to decide what to call her on the drive to go and get her. When I saw Dolly for the first time she was so little and a cute little baby doll, I decided to call her Dolly. Both my girls I gave the middle name as Mae, which is after my grandmother Willie Mae. My nephew has Dolly sister from the same litter and he called his little girl Molly. Dolly and Molly are both chocolate little short haired minis.

Thibodeaux came to me from New Orleans - with the name of Snuffy. He didn't seem like a Snuffy to me - so in keeping with his Cajun origins - he became Thibodeaux (Tib-Ah-Dough) - he has a couple nicknames as well - T Bone (because he thinks he is a BIG bad A$$) and Mr T. He doesn't even respond to Snuffy anymore - 3 years later :)
