Hello All,

Tanner went to the vet afain late yesterday afternoon. The vet is still not sure what is the source of his problems but agrees that it is possible that his worrying over the problem may be causing him to tense even more which then makes the problem just that much worse. He got his second accupunture treatment last night. He was not too happy about it at first and I had to hold his head to keep him from nipping at Dr. Suto. Once the doc left the room for a little while Tanner immedately sank down on the table and just really relaxed. I can't say if the accupuncture is heling the root cause of the problem but it sure seems to help him relax hw qas quite the limp doggy the rest of the night.

We will continue rimadyl through the weekend, (blood test if he stays on it much longer). Supplement with either Rescue Remady or the muscle relaxer if that doesn't help. If by Monday he isn't better we will start on steroids to see if that helps.

Part of the time he appears almost normal and at other times you can tell he is reallys sore.

PS Frank is getting really jealous of all the pills Tanner is getting.

defnitely coming from the Big Apple! Accupuncture usually takes 4-5 sessions to work if it's going to help at all but I can see that it has at least relaxed him which is important.

...before Daddy has to start nippin' at the Rescue Remedy!

I understand about Frank being jealous of Tanner's pills. At our house if someobody has to have a pill, everybody gets a treat. that can be a show when their are nine or so wanting to be next!

The "Girls" send Tanner lots of get well kisses and Butchie-Boo sends him a big thumbs up! Lots of rays from all of us!

Keep us updated

that nippin at the Rescue Remedy. :D Funny story...my hubby bought some a while ago for Chief, when we first got him. We were going to use it on him and for whatever reason at the time we didn't. Hubby started to feel stressed and said, "wonder if it will help me" so he took some. He said...it helped. I said..ok...now are you going to beg for some more????? Sit and give me your paw and you can have some more....:D :D

When I went home this noon Tanner was very full of himself acting like nothing has ever been wrong. Not the first time this has happened while he's been experiencing his problem. I have to restrict his activities when he feels like that. This morning he seemed a little tense when I left for work so in addition to his fimadyl he got a muscle relaser.

Between last nights accupuncture, and the drugs hew was one fisty little fellow this noon. One way I judge how his back is feeling is by watching him pee. When he is feeling good his right leg shoots out at 90 degrees from the ground while he pees. He is a big time leg lifter when it's pee time:D. There have some times lately where he has barely moved that leg. He also had to trot out to the gate so he could bark at somone getting out of their car..

I'm working on my mental health and running with my group tonight so I'm staying at the office changing here then will do the run before heading home. The boys seem to mind my being gone a longer time than they do my coming home for an hour then leaving again. I'm currious to see how Tanner is feeling when I get home.

the meds make them feel so much better which is even more of a reason to keep them confined as to not further cause injury. Probably the combination of accupuncture and the meds have helped. Hope he continues to improve.

More rayz from the Big Apple!

So far this morning he continues to do well. The only meds last night or this morning were the rimadyl. Now I'll have to see if he continues to do well through the weekend and then try removing the drugs. Tongiht may be a combination of leash and or kennel to keep him from getting to mobile.

We have our fingers and paws crossed that Tanner keeps getting better. I know how hard it must be to restrict him now that the meds are helping him feel more like his old self.

Lots of hugs!

I'm so happy that your TANNER is improving and I hope that he continues with his 90 degree leg lifts. I'll echo the advice on restricted activity since crate rest, (along w/pills and acupuncture) seemed to have worked for my JOEY.

Hope you are doing OK too Tom (I know that I was a mental trainwreck when JOEY wasn't well). Warm Seattle rays to you and all your boys.

Take care,

Tanner got himslf a little worked p about our Fox hound neighbor barking last night and got a little sore as a result. He got some muscle relaxers last night and this morning and is doeing decent today. He's not quite as good as he was Thursday or most of the day Friday but still not too bad. I think we will try rimadyl alone tonight and see what happens. Charlie the English Fox Hound was barking a little while ago and Tanner Wanted to go out to put in his two cents but I wouldn't let him.

I'm told Tanner he may have to share some of his drugs with me. There is a half marathon I want to do in two weeks but I've only been getting out for the Thursday night 3.5 mile runs sice Tanner has been having back issues. Today I went out planning on running a route from my house that is between 13.5 and 14 miles. The half marathon is 13.1 miles. I got stopped by a road closed for construction at the 8.5 mile mark and had to double back. Knowing I then had to run closer to 17 miles total to get back home I ran eas till about the 13 mile mark and walked more of the last 4 miles than ran I ran. Tem in the 90s by the time I got home full sun. I've run full marathons in less time than I spen on the road today:).

Tell Tanner to let that old fox hound alone for now and to relax. It is not worth it! Hope he is good as new again after his meds.

Tanner seems pretty spunky today. I have to keep telling him and Frank that they can't wrestle. I've been working hard to keep him inside when Charlie (the fox hound) is outside. We are still on rinadyl. I think we will be till we have two good days in a row then cut it in half.

This may be our last post to this thread. We are going off all drugs and Tanner is acting like his old self. So much so I'm having to restrict him a little. I don't want him doing too much too soon. Today I worked through lunch but after letting the boys out when I got home Tanner dug out his hedge hog wanting me to toss it down the hall for him to case after. I only gave it one short toss and told him that was enough running for now. He continued to squalk it for the next fifteen minutes walking around the house with it taunting his brothers. Frank and Dexter know better than to touch one of Tanner's hedge hogs. Once he settled down Frank started tellin him he wanted to play but Tanner told in very fast he was not in the mood. One quick growl from the top dog (tanner) had much bigger younger brother Frank turning his head nose down looking the other direction.

IT's great to have the little alpha back.

Tom,

This may be a good time, now that he is off meds. to consider supplementing. I know you give him avo-derm and active care that has gluc/chon but this is not enough of a therapeutic dose. You might also want to give Ester C and salmon oil. Check the archives for some information and studies.

Tanner continues to be his old self w/o the meds. The one thing that kept the worry to a minimum was that we (the vet and I) were better than 90% confident that the problem wasn't neurological (disk) in nature. Still especially having lost one to disk problems that thought continues to nag you. I'm still trying to keep Tanner and Frank from resuming their wrestiling. Tanner thinks he is ready to resume the rough stuff. I have a feeling that this and the back problem Tanner had last November might have been a result of 18.5# Frank being a little too rough with 12@ Tanner. But then if Tanner wants to he make Frank cower in no time.

Last night to help Frank burn off a little of his extra energy I ran up and down the short walk in my front yard and got Frank to start running laps. Even Dexter started to play the chase dad game. At least until Tanner told him he didn't approve of barking while chasing dad.

SInce there have been some new postings to this thread recently I'll just let everyone know my biggest problem with Tanner right now is keeping him from wrestling with Frank (Tanner is even starting the action part of the time) and IF I don't keep the stairs gated he will go racing down to the basement with me.

This morning all three boys were in the bahroom when I got out of the shower and Tanner decided there was some thing going on with Frank and Dexter that he didn't like so he wasn't going to let Dexter return to the big bed after Frank had returned there. They generally sit on the bed while Ig et dressed. I had to almost growl at Anner to tell him I wanted Dester up on the Bed witht eh rest of us.

It's good to have the old grump back:D
