Hey guys, Mama says I'm starting to look all growed up. My little breast bone is starting to poke out and I don't have puppy belly anymore whatever that means...
She even said I am starting to look a little too skinny! She is giving me more treats behind Mr. Roo's back...hee hee! I guess I'm supposed to eat more than Rudy since I'm bigger than him, but I don't....see the thing is, I'm holding our for the GOOD STUFF! I LOVE mother hubbard peanut butter flavor doggie biscuits and thats what shes giving me! Isn't it great to train your human into giving you what you REALLY want??
-Roscoe
Mom here, Do you guys think this is weird? He's not losing weight, but hes in a growth spurt and he's looking rather thin to me. He is eating his food, but only about 3/4 - 1 cup a day and I'd rather he eat at least 1 1/4 cup. He's not though, even if I put that much in his bowl, So I'm sneaking him extra cookies. They are pretty healthy, just have a bit more sugar than I would want in a food. Has this happened with anybody else? Roscoe will be 8 months old December 8th and he's getting neutered on the 11th and I want him to be at a good weight for his surgery.

Totally normal Krista... Rosie my blk/tan lil girl weighs in a whooping 8lbs now she has actually gainned a pound in the last 2mos she looked great til she lost her baby belly and got her chest.... next time i have the camera out i will take a stand up pic of her to show you how slim and musclar she is. The vet. says its great that she has a waist line... but he also suggested if i wanted her to put on a lil weight to mix a raw (yes ick raw) egg with her doggie food. You may want to try this to bulk him up a little. Its worked so far for us. Here is a pic of her taken last month shes gained almost a pound and looks lots better but still looks skinny when she stands up...lol http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Rosie...*pant* pant* What a beauty you are! Wanna be my Girl?? you look a LOT like me, but I am LOOOOOOOONG and am bigger than you even though I'm skinny. I prolly weigh 13 pounds and Mom and the Vet guess I will grow to 15 pounds or so. I am skinnier than Rudy around the middle and longer than him too, thats why mama's worried.
Check me out when I was 4 months old and just right in the weight department:

Krista here: Thanks for the reassurance Jen. I might just add raw eggs to both the boys food. Rudy is thin and hasn't gained any weight even though we have stopped our daily walks since it has gotten cold and dark. I don't think it would hurt him to gain 1/2 pound or so either. My boys must have some weird genes. They eat more than others their size and do not gain weight. Their parents were slender too.

My pup is still kind of "ribby", but my vet said it's hard for a pup to grow AND add weight, since most of the food goes straight into growing.
Besides, it is said that a dog that is lean growing up doesn't get as chubby as easily when he's grown. (It doesn't work with humans, apparently; I used to be so skinny you could have put me through a mail slot.)

Well Sue, that seems to be holding true for Rudy since he still doesn't have an ounce of fat on him and we aren't even doing our daily mile walks anymore since its so cold and dark when I get home. And no it did not hold true for me http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif. I was a VERY thin child and now if I even THINK about food I gain weight http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wink.gif. Rudy and Roscoe are from the same lines and all their ancestors I saw were skinny too, even the retired doggers. Must Run in their genes.
Rosie, This is Roscoe. I know my mommy won't mind cause Rudy's girl is more than a year older than him! Rudy and Miss Madders (you know the pp girl) have been an item for a while now. My Brudder and I LOVE those mini b/t's! And if I may say, you are the prettiest mini b/t I have ever seen! *kiss*
Mama hopes to get some update pics of me developed and posted soon!

When we got Beanie, he would NOT eat his dry puppy food. So, we mixed some wet food in with it and he would eat it. I did not want to feed him can food forever, so our vet suggested adding some vegetables, parmesean, or garlic powder to his meal to make it more appealing. He is a skinny guy, and sometimes just does not eat, but he has never gone more than 24 hours without eating. Sometimes it is as if he is just not interested.

Whopper is going through this stage too. He will be 1 year on Friday and is getting long and lanky. Kind of like a teenage boy that all of a sudden adds about six inches of growth over a summer. He eats like a horse. I increased his food to 3 cups a day plus a half cup of dog stew on his kibble at night. BTW, Whopper is a standard who should mature at around 30 lbs. I don't recommend raw eggs, there is an enzyme in the egg white that prevents the dog from using biotin. Cooked eggs are fine. I add eggs to my dog stew to thicken and add protein. You can also add a little cottage cheese to his food.

Do you have a link to the information on that enzyme? I have read quite a bit about the BARF diets and have not seen anything about this. Many BARFers use Raw eggs -(but I have heard you need to boil the shells if you use them).
I have not added anything yet. I decided to wait and ask the Vet when he gets snipity-snipped next week.

I don't have a link, its just something I've been told over the years or have read somewhere. It could be an old dog trainer's tale.
