 I am very mad that Jack is so picky, he wont eat dog food. I guess that is my fault somewhat, because we do feed human food at times. When he has dog food he has proplan puppy. Im trying to get him to dog food only. I want a good dog food with good fiber. Maybe he just doesnt like proplan. What is a really good dog food? One that any dog will eat? Oh and what about vitamin supplements? Any good vitamins...yummy ones?:bounce:

Jackson may just be holding out for something better than dog food. You may have to just not give him anything else and when he gets hungry he'll eat it. Being a dachshund this shouldn't take too long. Miller will occasionally not eat his food, but if I don't give him anything else he'll eat at the next meal.

I have yet to have a dog refuse Natural Balance for dry kibble. Even Stinker thinks it is treats and gets some instead of other treats. I am sure there are others out there. Pro Plan was a rejected food around here (along with several others).

you must not give in to the L@@K and give people food in place. There are many good quality kibbles out there that dogs love. Wellness makes a good one. Check out www.oldmotherhubbard.com You could add a supplement like NUPRO www.nuprosupplements.com which is liver based. It's a powder but when added with water, forms a gravy that you can put on the kibble. I've yet to hear of a dog that didn't go crazy for it! If your dog doesn't eat for a meal, wait 15 minutes, pick up the bowl and no food until the next meal. The dog will eat soon enough unless you keep giving in, then of course the pup is training YOU! Good luck!

I laughed when I saw this at the breeder, but I checked with our local pet store owner and he said he did some research and is getting the Chicken Soup brand in this month. Our two love it. Gobble it up, and believe it or not, their poops are quite easy to clean up! It's no more costly than any of the other brands either. The only people food they've ever had (or will get) is fresh vegies, so they don't know any better.:D

I know every dog is different by both of my two turn their noses up at Wellness. They will eat it eventually, but they are definitily not excited about eating it. We are still searching for a high quality food that they enjoy. Right now we are mixing about three different kinds of food so we can move on and try something else in the next month or so. It is tough when you want them to eat right and enjoy eating.

Good luck,

Katy

these dachsies have YOU trained. You are giving in to them by constantly switching/adding foods to suit them! :D They keep holding out because they know they will be getting something better, heck I would too if I knew that!!! My suggestion would be to stick with one good quality dog food, perhaps add a supplement like Nupro (which is liver based) and forms a gravy when adding water and see what happens. If they don't eat within 15 minutes, pick it up and no food until next meal. They will eat!

Good luck!

I've had to do that. Miller is a somewhat picky eater. I've never had a dachshund that was a picky eater before. I started just picking up the food and not giving him anything else until the next meal. After he missed a few meals he got the idea and eats really well now.

worked out for you Lotsadox! Personally, knowing how Chief is, I can't envision a "picky" dachshund! He'll eat anything....never refused food, pills etc. I keep thinking when I read others picky puppers, are you sure you have a dachshund? :D
